Frost is HC at UCF, if I'm not mistaken.

I'd be interested in watching film of the New Hampshire offense while chip was there, and Colorado/asu under the helm of mark helfrich.

Than we can decide who was the brains behind the Oregon scheme.

It was Kelly. MH was hired by Kelly in 09. Kelly was hired in 07 and brought his offense with him and turned Dennis Dixon into a Heisman candidate and had the Ducks ranked #2 until Dixon blew his knee.

But is foolish to think that Helfrich just sat there and did nothing.

I agree. I said he did the scheming and prepping, and kelly did most of the in game stuff.

I know, I was being facetious.... I understand that LSU fans are intrigued by helfrich, but showering him with all this praise as a qb guru and offensive genius is really unfounded

At Boise State Helfrich coached Broncos quarterback Bart Hendricks. Under Helfrich's development, Hendricks won Big West Conference Player of the Year in 1999 and 2000 and guided the Broncos to the fourth best passing offense in the nation in 2000.

Helfrich followed Koetter to Arizona State when Koetter became the head coach of the Sun Devils. Under the coaching of Helfrich, Andrew Walter broke nearly every Arizona State passing record and John Elway's Pac-10 touchdown record.[11] Walter would go on to be drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Dirk Koetter would later praise Helfrich for his coaching abilities, "He can do it all in his head. He doesn't have to draw the pictures on the board (…) not many people can do that. He sees the game through the quarterback's eyes. We all have ideas, but if your quarterback can't execute those ideas, they are lines on a paper. Mark is as smart a football guy as I know."

Oregon Edit
After the 2006 season, Mike Bellotti contacted Helfrich about possibly joining Oregon, but Helfrich declined to leave Colorado after only one season; Chip Kelly was hired instead.[13] Two years later, Helfrich was named Oregon's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, replacing Chip Kelly after he was promoted to head coach.

Interesting. Shows he doesn't just bolt too

I won't even get into the Oregon offense since many want to just credit Kelly and Frost yet dismiss him

Yet here's more

As quarterbacks coach, Helfrich was instrumental in the development of the quarterbacks that played under his tutelage at Oregon. In 2009, Jeremiah Masoli's leadership improved as he led Oregon to the 2010 Rose Bowl. The following season sophomore Darron Thomas guided an undefeated Oregon team to the 2011 BCS National Championship Game. Thomas finished his career 23-3 as a starter with a school-record 66 touchdown passes[19] and led the Ducks to a 45–38 victory over #10 Wisconsin in the 2012 Rose Bowl. The 2012 season showcased Marcus Mariota as the first freshman to start a season opener for the Ducks in 22 seasons.[20] He led the Ducks to a 12–1 record while being named All-Pac-12 Conference First Team,[21] Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year,[21] and winning the 2013 Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP Award as he guided the Ducks to a 35-17 victory over #5 Kansas State.[22]

Helfrich was recognized for his impact on the Ducks' offensive success as he was named by FootballScoop as its National Quarterbacks Coach of the Year in 2010[23] and 2012,[24] in addition to being one of three finalists as its national offensive coordinator of the year honor.

Just straight from wiki

2013 season Edit
In his first season as head coach, Helfrich had the task of trying to emerge from the shadow of Chip Kelly.[33] He departed from his predecessor's "blur" offense and implemented a more balanced attack that included a skilled passing game, resulting in an efficient offense that continued to score points and break offensive records.

2014 season
In Helfrich’s second season, the Ducks won a school-record 13 games and reached the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship.[1] Quarterback Marcus Mariota became the first Oregon player to win the Heisman Trophy.[39]

That's a nice write-up, but he didn't run the offense and control the flow of the game in any of their best years at Oregon.

Just because an architect can design and draw doesn't mean he can swing a hammer. Our OC needs to be the architect and be the day-to-day contractor.

You completely skipped his tenure at Colorado which was garbage, also didn't mention the failure to develop a qb after the once in a generation talent left the program.

Here's another problem, the system at asu and at Oregon are completely different. So neither of those systems belonged to helfrich. Asu (and Boise) was koetter while Oregon was obviously chip Kelly. If the guy is such a mastermind why didn't people hire him to run his own system?

Your logic is flawed about giving Helfrich no credit for his work with ASU, CO, or Oregon. To me, it seems like Chip could use some of Helfrich's play and QB coaching with both the Eagles and the Niners. By all accounts, he is a very bright offensive mind, and would have a lot of room to develop his SEC system for the Tigers. If Chip was the mastermind that guys like to give to him, certainly he would be scoring more points in his last two jobs.

There is no way u can bring the NFL into this argument.

Spurrier was the brightest offensive college mind in the 90s and failed miserably in the pros....his style just didn't translate.

Same goes for the guy who currently coaches in Tuscaloosa

You don't recruit an NFL roster. Chip is working with the sht he was given. His system is not suited for the NFL which is why he won't make it through next season if they start anything less that .500 through the first 8 games.

How about this, if Helfrich is as great as we make him out to be, why haven't we heard any rumors of him to San Fran to show Chip how to do it? I'm sure there is some type of consultant position there if Chip wanted it to be.

The subject is : In my view, Helfrich would be a home run hire for many reasons with Canada being number 2 on that list because both of them are young, innovative, and can build and execute in games a winning SEC offense. They both would probably be here for a while, too. Kiffin and Sark have heavy baggage.
