My premise is that if we hired, say, Tenuta last year, We probably would have missed out on Chavis and O this year. Was a crappy season with Peveto and Mallory worth landing the Chavis and O combo?

Hopefully so. I don't think Tenuta would have stuck around too long. He probably would've worn off his welcome pretty quick and gotten run off.

possibly . . . i'd rather miles have just hired a competent coordinator last year. but there is a possibility that this shitty season plus it being one of Alleva's first stamps on the fb program that we went balls out for a blockbuster hire and ended up better off in the long run.

My thought is that Peveto and Mallory taught Les a lesson that he will not do the "promote from within" thing again for a long, long time. But, I'm certainly excited about it working out the way it appears headed.

I just used Tenuta as an example. Insert any name you like. I think landing Chavis and O is big and don't think it would have been possible if we had landed someone other than Malleveto. They stuck so bad a change had to be made.

this isn't necessarily true that you can NEVER promote from within.

Have to applaud alleva and co. for being on board with the spending spree. I'm sure the lower bowl and shitty ticket sales was a motivating factor though

You can never settle for a crappy season regardless.

Those who pay the LSU bills sure as hell wish we didnt have such a poor season.

good question. It would largely have depended on who we got instead. The real upside to the current scenario (presuming that we got a good DC last year) is that we have effectively replaced Peveto with O. That is an incredibly awesome trade-up.

Considering LSU wasn't expected to win anything this year anyway (no SEC title or NC) then sure, I think it was worth it. What difference would there be if LSU had 3 losses this year instead of 5? A better bowl?? Maybe, maybe not....considering LSU has gone to the Peach bowl before with only 2 losses (2005 season).

fixed it for ya.

And they had no choice. Football produces the revenue. Could not have empty seats like occurred under Hallman. They had to head that off at the pass and did.

I said all along going 7-5 this year would be worth it if we got O and Chavis

the short list last year didn't work out. my theory it came down to money and contract issues. mallory/paveto was a band aid and everyone knows it. successful or not that combo wouldn't of been around this season. LSU hires someone not ready or on the level last season and no way they could let them go after one season (unless your tubby and auburn). i think it worked out just like they wanted it to after the coach search didn't go well last year.
i mean we ended up with a true SEC DC who is excited about coming to LSU, a former USC DL coach head recruiter/ole miss headcoach/NFL DL coach as our assistant HC/DL/rec. cord and possible another hire for the DB that will be solid.
not to mention another move that will be positive (not major) that my boy was sworn to secrecacy about and wouldn't tell me ( ).
i'm pretty happy with the outcome. these moves have been a long term fix and not a short term.
