Vtech wont hire Smart as head coach

Maybe someone else will and should, he's earned his shot.
Tech has had Foster since 1987...he is their DC. Hiring another DC for a job Foster has stated he wanted when Beamer left would almost be asinine.
If they don't go Foster. They go proven head coach or OC because they can spin that over Foster. Would be a slap in the face to take another DC over him.

if he does not get the job I doubt he sticks around knowing he will probably never get the job

If you're Va Tech, why would you go in house here? It's been a few years since they have been relevant. What's there to preserve right now?

I agree. If Foster was such a slam dunk to take over, the school probably would have announced him coach-in-waiting by now. He might get a courtesy interview, but if Smart has expressed interest, that makes me think certain people know VT is looking for options outside the program.

As long as he's been there I'll be suprised if Bud Foster isn't offered the job first.
