Simple pointing out you don’t know what a “gimmick” offense is. Carry on

I know exactly what a gimmic offense.. just because you try to run it a little more than other guy, but do it just as poorly.. doesn't mean you're any less gimmicky.

Graham Harrell Air Raid Link

Just to be clear.. Harrell runs the air raid offense. It’s a gimmick.

No, you really don’t.

Like LSU 2020, gimmic offense. Like you said earlier, stats say so.

2019 LSU: 166.8 rushing yards per game

2020 USC: 97.3* rushing yards per game

Yep, same number. You got me.

Air raid isn’t a gimmick anymore. Oklahoma has been running it. Arizona in the nfl runs it. Many teams have taken pieces of it. Our offense has a lot of it.

No they don’t.. what are you talking about?

They both run spread.

AZ is 4th in the NFL in rushing.

That offense is absolutely air raid. Where do you think Kingsbury and Reilly came from? Just because they run the ball effectively doesn’t make the offense not air raid.

If Harrell does get the job I’m afraid this type of talk is gonna be splattered all over this board.

People need to understand what the Air Raid is today is not what it used to be 5-10 years ago. This is t the Mike Leach Throw on every down formula. It has evolved into a little bit of everything. The Core passing concepts are there, but the run is infused heavily and from the the RPO/Quick game is branched off. Not to mention the screen game. Doesn’t that system sound familiar? Oh yea, the philosophy that won LSU the National Championship.

Yes the air raid concept is different between coaches. Go back to mumme and he throws a ton. In general air raid is a shotgun formation. Basic is 4 wrs though that has changed depending on coach. Concepts are simple and the idea is for the ability to read the defense and call the correct play. It is pass heavy naturally as with a 4 we look you lack men to block. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Kingsbury is a great example. He has run his version of the air raid and adapted it to Arizona Oklahoma and specifically Lincoln Riley is also an air raid guy. Oklahoma state also runs it and has put out some good rbs. It has progressed from the mumme/leach Kentucky/Valdosta state air raid. North Texas didn’t run it bad during harrels time. About 2 k rushing or slightly under. Yes it is a pass first offense. But so was LSU last year. We couldn’t run it vs Texas. But once people saw our passing the run game opened up. We didn’t have an intricate running attack.

Fun fact .......
Callaway played QB at Valdosta State under an air raid system and has brought the concept along with him at all of his coaching stops. I talked with him after a game at Samford a few years ago and he really impressed me with his knowledge about the air raid and how he's constantly perfecting it. The dude literally eats, breaths, sleeps football.

Now compare the conferences. That conference is soft, USC should be ranked much higher than that.

idk about harrel. I think he'd work here for the passing attack maybe but has he shown any dynamics in the run game at all? We need someone who can design better runs than what we have in our system. LSU basically has 1 zone run play and that shite doesn't work unless you have a line who can block really well. They need misdirection sliced in there to cover up a bad line or at least keep a defense on their toes more.

You can't survive the SEC with heavy pass. As you can see why, your QB will be sitting out the entire season if you do. He doesn't make sense to me. You'd also risk losing Davis/Emery because they know they're not getting the ball fed in his system. Need someone who can prove they'll run more balance. You have to power ball run it sometimes in the SEC to survive and get physical. We don't need finesse shite.

I think Freeman/Harrel is misdirection. I'll bet the hires are someone the media isn't even reporting about.

So why even switch OC’s when we are getting one doing just as bad in a worse conference?

So going through his offenses, I see in 2017, North Texas averaged 37 passes to 37 rushes. Their leading rushes was 32nd in the country with 1,215 yards and 23rd at 6.5 ypc. That was with a QB that threw 511 passes for 4,000 yards. I'm not sure I see that the whole "hE cAnT rUn MuH bAlL" melt is about.

That's what I was asking above I wasn't familiar with what he did over there. He might not have balance at USC because their backs might not be good.

LSU really needs to develop Emery who has no vision at all for him to do a lot. Davis hasn't really lived up to the power back I thought he'd be either.

He's very young too so I'm curious how well he can recruit and at worst, he can develop more as an OC. I hope they promote Cal to PGC to go with him. Ensminger will still be around in some capacity.
