True Offensive Coordinators, Who are they?

It seems to me the best Offensive minds in college football are head coaches. Lane Kiffin, who apparently is the best, playcalling was questionable at best last night. Imagine the LSU offense with a Tom Herman or Jimbo at the helm with an offensive coordinator of their choosing while retaining Aranda. Now imagine an O led team with maybe Kiffin while retaining Aranda.
It's easy to see which option is better.
I like O but we can do better and everyone knows it.

This is why you need a HC who has an elite skill set on one side of the ball, not a CEO who just is a motivator and recruits

Absolutely. Most head coaches specialize in offense or defense not D line. Look how that turned out last time we put a line coach as our HC

How often do you find a situation like such? Not very likely. So the percentage of failure is almost certain.

Dabo was also the OC in addition to his interim duties. So he did call plays and demonstrated exceptional proficiency at it.

That's the issue - finding truly GREAT coordinators that are content to stick around and be career coordinators is rare. The really dynamic ones become head coaches. So ahead coach that "let's his coordinators coach and oversees the program" is constantly going to be at risk by having to hire new coordinators. Miles got lucky with Chavis.

Clemson doesn't have to play in the SEC.
