This guy was on the rise in the coaching ranks until the 2008 Auburn debacle occurred. But still had great runs at La Tech and Cal with Sonny Dykes. He was an innovative OC that revolutionized High School football back when teams still ran the Wing T, Veer exclusively.
For just $3,000 your school could also run the Tony Franklin System

Those Hal Mummie guys always blurred the line between football coach and used car salesman.

Tubs ruined the guy, then fired his arse mid season.

He made a killing selling VHS tapes though

Tubs wanted to bring him in to run the Spread but kept the rest of his staff who didn’t mesh with Franklins system. Is that how it went down?

He hired Franklin and retained the entire offensive staff who were all opposed to Franklin’s philosophy. Failure was a foregone conclusion.

I actually had to remind myself that he was walking away with a lot of money.

I mean, he had the #1 offense in the country in 2012 at Louisiana Tech. 51.3 PPG...Dykes got a lot of credit and did very little coaching. It was all Franklin.

Or for $500 you could learn from Mumme himself

Uh, no. He's not
Mumme is the Godfather, Leach is his apprentice. Always two, there are. No more, no less
Being on the staff doesn't mean he had shite to do with the scheme his HC was developing. Per Mumme's book, it was him and Leach. Mostly Mumme, Leach was just totally bought in with him in a time where "Pass heavy offense" was seen as heresy.

Can we talk about how strange that excerpt from Tony Franklin is?

The thing I will always around about that Tech team is them thinking they were above the Independence Bowl so they turned that bid down for a better offer that never came. So they ended up not playing in a bowl game because the Indy Bowl took someone else in their place

He seems a little off.

Don't knock VHS tapes. Those things were vital in getting me through the age of 13.

I’m sure they were football related :)

Dude has an incredibly long memory, thats for sure. Wonder what was the incident that caused him to go back to his former player and his family to apologize 30+ years later.
