One of the South Carolina sources (JC Shurbertt spelling?) posted a thread at 247 basically saying Herman will hold out for a bigger job. That is the move he should make.

That's not exactly an accurate representation of what was said. JC essentially repeated someone else's info about Herman's dilemma of either taking the USC job now, or turning it down in the hopes Texas opens up at the end of the season.

For stability sake, South Carolina would be better off going for Smart.

I think this is the guy, and always has been the guy. Herman is a smokescreen. Smart makes a lot more sense for the program.

Tom Herman should stay at Houston. Houston has been positioning itself for a Big 12 invite for some time. Herman could turn Houston into the new Miami. They have the talent base for recruiting, brand new on campus stadium, facilities and now they have their head coach. The fan support is coming. Getting bigger and bigger by the game. Pay the man!!

Latest update:

quote:

(UPDATE 11/18) There was a lot of noise regarding Tom Herman Tuesday. The Houston Chronicle reported the board at the University of Houston is to meet Thursday to discuss an amendment to Herman’s contract in an effort to fight off his suitors. Herman reportedly makes $1.35 million annually. The talk of Herman and Missouri also intensified as the Tigers are starting to set the wheels in motion on their search. It’s well known the AD at Mizzou hired Herman at Houston. All that being said, here’s what you need to know. We were told Tuesday night Ray Tanner and Herman have been communicating thru the third party and the two are on the same page about what each one wants. We were also told the two will sit down together at the appropriate time to make sure it’s a fit for both parties. If a formal announcement were to come, it would be made soon after Houston’s final regular season game if it’s not in the AAC championship game December 5th. If the Cougars are in the title game, the announcement would come soon after that.

They struggle to get 30K fans to a game when their program is undefeated. Herman has to fix tangible maintenance issues with his own hands, b/c he's tired of asking the administration to fix it (and they didn't.) Houston is rarely on national tv. The Big12 expansion doesn't have Houston as one of their Top2 choices currently. Fact: Tom Herman will not be coaching the Houston Cougars next season.

If Alleva has ANY SENSE whatsoever, he is already reaching out to Herman's agent in the event that Miles is terminated/retires (which is more likely than not right now from what I have been told).

I hate to break it to you, but Houston is a better job than USCe. Herman might leave eventually, but for a true top tier job. He'd be an idiot to leave now for a program like USCe or Mizzou.

I suppose everyone seems to have an inside source. I will say this, the same person that told me about Shea Patterson and his brother several months before it came to light, told me that the odds are the Miles is gone. This person has been right on other things as well relative to the program very recently. This source has been wrong too though (about Tyron Johnson not coming to LSU). I will leave it at that for now. There is a little more that I don't feel comfortable sharing right now.

This is either a really sad troll attempt, or you're an idiot...or possibly both.

USC would be a great landing spot for him. He'd be foolish to turn them down. Spurrier showed you can win there.

Yeah that is quite stupid. Houston has no fan support. South Carolina is a much worse team, and probably will be for a few more years, but they are the better program.

Houston has proven to be a great stepping-stone job, similar to Cincinnati. But it isn't a destination job, at all.

Houston is almost guaranteed to go undefeated, but they will not sniff the playoffs, and they've struggled to fill their stadium. If USC was undefeated at this point in the season, they'd be in the top four, there'd be no standing room in the stadium, and there'd be a Heisman candidate being discussed.

I don't think Herman comes to USC for a handful of reasons, but to act as if Houston is a better job overall is just ridiculous.

Not sure if valid, but interesting none-the-less:

quote:

@WilllDaThrilll @KylePuma cross Tom herman off the list. Jack Arute just reported there’s already a secret agreement in place with SoCar

ETA: This is being reported on TX based boards:

quote:

"Herman has agreed in principle to be the new head coach at South Carolina."
