This search has dragged on for quite a few weeks now, as it was interrupted by the GM meetings last week. As of a couple of days ago, it had been reported that five candidates have interviewed for the position:

Rob Thomson, 54, current Yankees bench coach
Eric Wedge, 49, current Blue Jays field coordinator
Hensley Meulens, 50, current Giants bench coach
Aaron Boone, 44, current ESPN analyst
Chris Woodward, 41, current Dodgers infield coach

Here's a little info on all of these candidates. LINK

Yesterday, it was reported that Carlos Beltran has also interviewed for the position.

Over the last few years, many young Yankees credited Carlos Beltran’s influence as having helped their careers. He requested a locker next to Aaron Judge in spring ‘16. Has a good relationship w/ Cashman. Very intriguing managerial candidate.

Although I love Beltran, I don't think it would be a good idea to hire a guy who just got finished playing. Not that I don't think he'll be a good manager down the line.

Personally, I'm hoping for Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens or Aaron Boone.

They should be looking at Brad Ausmus.

There was some talk of him early on in the process, but I don't believe he was interviewed. I believe Ausmus said he wanted to take a year off from managing.

Also, I really do not want him.

Beltran should do what others have done and start as a minor league instructor or front office liaison type role first I think.

Probably a smart idea.

Derek Jeter should own the Marlins and manage the Yankees at the same time.

I wonder what Jeter's relationship with Mattingly is, and will be.
They only played together a couple years.

TBH, Cashman's love affair with a young coach who knows analytics is gonna be a disaster. I mean Beltran was a great player, and probably acted like a coach in the dugout toward the end of his career. But where are his analytics bona fides? And his first gig is gonna be with the Yankees??

Welp. Cashman has announced that there will not be a second round of interviews.

And Phillies hired Rob Thompson.

And I just got notification that the search has narrowed down to Boone and Hensley Meulens.
