With the Illinois job open and Monken being from Illinois what do yall think the chances are that Illinois takes Monken? I am very impressed with what he has done at USM with turning that dumpster fire back into a respectable program.

I never thought they'd be bowl eligible 3 years after the Ellis Johnson disaster. Monken really has done an amazing turn around job.

Transfers and JCs don't always translate. He's improve them every year though

Dino Babers is the #1 target for Illinois from what I've heard. Rumblings of a push for a minority hire from inside the administration. Would not be surprised to hear Monken in the running though.

I think we would be a great hire for yall but how would the fanbase react if they hire Monken?

I know his name came up before when they got Beckman. Swung for Sumlin and got Beckman. Many wanted Monken, but he didn't really have the experience at that point. I'd be fine with that hire. He's done a hell of a job at USM.

I would still wonder about Monken's recruiting. 14 transfers on the 2 deep. You can't load up with transfers at most schools.
I love Babers' resume. Built one team that was bad. Then improved another team that was good. He's a little older than most coaches and probably won't get a job offer from a real power....good time for him to cash in at a place like Illy.

I don't know if he bails this year, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't leave within the next 3 years, assuming the team continues to trend upwards.
No young gun like Monken is looking to stay in CUSA. However, the young, offensive minded coaches seem to be most effective at that level (likely due to the spread being a better system for smaller, faster 2-3 star players).
USM made their bed when they fired Jeff Bower, now they have to lie in it.
