It is a "meh" hire. Rather someone else. With the talent Alabama puts out, the defense should be great and they have not in meaningful games.

Why would he leave for the same position? I thought he was already making over 1 mil. Besides everyone knows Saban is running that defense.

My thoughts as well. With the talent they get, they seemed to get skewered too frequently. I think he/Saban are locked into their conventional approaches which too frequently don't work against the uncoventional O's of the day.
For Smart, it would be a good move to get out of Saban's shadow and try and show he's learn to walk on his on.
