Crowton's got a good scheme..he really does. His problem always seems to come down to his QB coaching skills.

He is seriously a terrible developer of quarterbacks. Give him a guy that someone else coached up well and he can churn out a good offense but when you throw the job in his lap it blows up in his face..

Dennis Dixon was a disaster under him at Oregon, and as soon as he left the guy was going to win the Heisman trophy until he blew out his knee. The only QB that Crowton's ever really developed successfully is Tim fricking Rattay and that was nearly 15 years ago, in the WAC.

I think if we were to hire a QB coach the offense would probably improve a great deal..but that won't happen.

his system is really too complex for his own good sometimes, it seems. I think if he'd just commit to the spread or commit to something else they would come out better for it in the end.

a "good scheme" might be pushing it now that I think about it a little, but I'm a stickler for exaggeration.

Truth be told it's quite different now than it was when he was bombing it all over the place at LA Tech 10 years ago..he runs a lot more option and just in general now. It's kind of an amalgamation of spread concepts that he's trying to force into a box with pro style concepts and they can't really get it right.

The thing that sticks out to me is that they have way too many formations. If they'd scale it back I think it'd be more effective. I mean "out schemeing" people with tricky formations is great but you've got to estabilsh your base packages first and he really hasn't done that the last few years.

It's disappointing to me because I see what he wants to do and it has a lot of promise..it just doesn't work
