This hire is referendum on Alleva: moreso his influence than ability

I've poopoo'd Alleva a lot since he's been here, but last year's botched firing is on the powers above him. I think he was actually in the process of doing the tough thing that needed to be done, and bringing in a home run hire.
One reason I think we are 'all in' on Jimbo is because he is *STILL* Alleva's top target and Alleva wants to make sure people know that it was going to happen last year until our numbnuts President/Governor/Governor-Elect decided to throw their weight into Alleva's area of expertise.
So, we will get Jimbo if at all possible. And Alleva will look good doing it. Kudos to him, from a long-time non-fan.
And the post mortem on this 12 month mess is that the Powers That Be above Alleva cost LSU the 2016 season. We could have had Jimbo + Fournette + these studs on defense. F'King Alexander may well have cost Fournette a Heisman and LSU an SEC title.
As my dad likes to say: Stick with what you know, Alexander.

Is that you, Moscona?

Ha, no. And the more I read on here from Random and others, the more I think Alleva may yet screw this up if he is really forcing Jimbo to keep certain assistants. If you hire a 2nd tier guy, sure. But, you don't do that to a tier 1 target.

The majority of the time, sure. But when you have someone like Aranda on your side, you bend arms to keep him.

I agree with everything written.. but I think he has actually done a pretty good job so far.. you could def tell someone above him made the decision last year.. if he gets Jimbo its going to look really bad on the people above him..

Looking on the bright side, at least we got Aranda out of it.

you know, with fisher, i think he may stick around for a long time like smart did with Saban and get a big job instead of having to go smaller and prove himself..

If Aranda stays and Lsu defense puts up similar #s next year, he will get a power 5 HC job.

not a big one that he would want, hes still young.. kirby smart stayed at bama a long time.. many other DC's who go on to be head coaches do as well.. its the offensive guys who get the head jobs first..

I agree with you on going the Kirby/Muschamp route, but to play devil's advocate, he doesn't have the booster connection Kirby did by being an alumnus of UGA.

I could see wisconsin going after him very easily... when youre good you dont need connections..

even if Kirby hadn't gotten the UGA job he was still getting run as a candidate at several p5 jobs
