You don't just get a deal done in one day. He had quite obviously been in talks with USC prior to Saturday, and his camp absolutely loved how quickly people bought the LSU story to drive up his price. Whether or not we "missed" on him I don't think we will ever know. My guess is that no one in our camp thought he was worth the kind of numbers that were being thrown around, which were Saban and Meyer numbers, to be clear.

He has a lot of upside, but it isn't totally proven yet. Even Jimbo already had a title under his belt when A&M snagged him. Harbaugh said of Ryan Day, some people are born on third base and think they hit a triple. In many ways, Riley is the same. He inherited a well-oiled machine, and kept it running. Let's see what he can do when the machine needs some work.

Is it so far-fetched that people knew he was leaving but had his destination wrong?? I just don’t think so

There’s more tk be said here.

LSU ADs get played like this. UNLESS Woodward already has his guy and this was not a done deal as the insider jokers here alluded to.

Jordy told what happened. USC was at 15 mill a year and Woody did not want to go that high for a guy he thought was not going to stay in college. Jordyn also said that Woody never got a good feeling that LR wanted to be in the SEC. Based off reports LR was not a happy camper when OU made the move to the SEC.

Riley can thank tigerbait 1977, TBL and a few other posters here for some of that leverage

That doesn’t make sense because USC not paying 15 mil a year.

Hey everyone. I figured I would let dust settle a bit before I posted from what I know from the USC side (and somewhat OU side).

I went to USC. One of my frat brothers was at a booster golf tournament for USC a couple of weeks ago that our AD Bohn played and spoke at. He texted me right after to tell me what Bohn spoke about our next HC.

Bohn told the room that our new coach was already in place, that it was a home run hire, and that everyone would be very pleased. That's it.

It's easy to speculate from that, but this deal with LR would seem to point that way. This didn't come together overnight.

There has been a lot of feedback from people over on the USC boards with OU insiders. Both teams folks that are more in the loop are saying LR had been asking for resources (within recruiting-- multi media staff, NLI staff, other ancillary things) that the brass at OU would not sign off on. (USC has a larger recruiting staff than OU which actually surprised me.) He was also not happy that OU made the decision to move to the SEC without his input.

One OU person said players had been asking for meetings with LR since last week, and had gotten no response. They also said people in the Switzer Center said something seemed "off" with LR the past week or so.

OU insiders said they are firmly convinced the LSU part WAS a smokescreen. He was not going to leave an SEC team for an SEC team. How much he played with Woodward and the LSU brass I do not know.

I am not here to flame or troll, but only to give insight where it might be beneficial to those trying to figure this out from the other teams involved.

However, this almost definitely seems like it was sewn up and kept quiet (the only people who had any knowledge of the hire from the SC side was our AD and Asst. AD, as well as the BOT and President) so it was kept airtight. Also remember that SC has been looking for a new coach since the mid-September, so the feelers had been out for a while.

This was a premeditated move that had been orchestrated probably at least two weeks ago, and probably started a long time before that.

I think OU was In need of an Oil change and a car wash. Both quite easy to do.

USC has been crap for a while now with multiple failed coaches.

He is a lot of talent that can be recruited but Lincoln has never had to be a builder.

Him coming to LSU would have been a relatively easy rebuild (more like a full tune up).

Florida and USC are both in need of full rebuilds IMO.

I think Napier will be seen as the better hire in 5 years.
