He never brought home the bacon. He relied on the good recruiters on the staff to bring in the beef. As Aranda is not a gregarious outgoing person. He is very analytical and very quiet person.

A lot of this stems from something he said years ago about recruiting not being his favorite part of his job.
That’s a big difference between that statement and “he’s not good at recruiting.” He likes building relationships, but doesn’t like being on his phone and traveling all over the country when he would rather be coaching. Doesn’t mean he won’t or can’t do it.

Big difference!

But how do you rebuild when you’ve already been in it? If they want an interjection of new ideas and a clean slate, Aranda isn’t the guy.

The current culture is not the same one as when Aranda was here. You don’t go
15-0 with the culture LSU has now.

I’d expect Baylor to promote grimes.

It looks like Joey McGuire is set to become the Texas Tech head coach.

Why is that important?

If he thought/knew that Aranda was leaving, McGuire would be the Baylor head coach.

Maybe McGuire knows he wouldn't necessarily be promoted if Aranda left? Baylor's AD brought in Rhule and Aranda, so he might look for another outsider with more of a college pedigree first. I could be totally wrong though.

McGuire makes sense for Tech since he was a successful high school coach in Texas, which kind of gives him a Spike Dykes vibe. The fanbase will embrace his good ole boy nature, too, so I could see him jumping on that job even if Aranda ended up leaving.

Aranda is my top pick, we made a horrible mistake letting him walk away.

He’s smart enough to trust his hires

He had to fire his OC and PGC after one year and another of his coaches after one day because he didn’t do due diligence on his past
