But you don't pay a $17 million buyout for your current coach just to turn around and hire someone with 3.5 years of experience as a G5 head coach with a Lending Tree Bowl win serving as the pinnacle of their coaching career.
Fortunately our AD will be aiming much higher.
Who the hell do you think we're aiming at?
Even Lincoln Riley only has 4.5 years as a HC
A dream candidate like Matt Rhule? 3 years as a HC in a major conference

I think most people just want the "best" candidate available.

I wouldn't mind Napier on a 4 yr $4/5 mill contract. If he doesn't pan out after 3 yrs fire him.
1-4 against ranked opponents
No NY6 bowl
Not a really good resume from a G5 coach to a school like lsu.

Yeah he's not going to leave for 2m more and not be able to run the program as he wants lol.

I'm very happy that so many LSU fans have small dick syndrome preventing them from wanting Napier. He'd kill it at LSU.

Like most things, I think you are dealing with a very vocal minority. I think most would be happy with Nap. The up to downvote ratio on the OP is pretty damn positive.

If he didn’t coach right down the HWY, no one would even know who he is.

I guess he’s right down the highway from Auburn and South Carolina also!

LSUs bigtime boosters arent bailing out the firing of Ed, to turn around and hire a G5 coach. Just stop, Its embarassing. Its nothing but one of many smokescreens
Its on the same level of pumping Peetz or Daronte as coordinators, when guys like Venables, Muschamp, Pruitt, Herman are also available. You might not get the big name, but Peetz nor Daronte should be your first choice

So we should hire a “big time” guy like Kiffin or Riley that practically are masterminds at 7 on 7. Don’t get me wrong, both are great offensive minds, but need an all around team and especially defense to win week in and week out in the SEC. Kiffin will win his 8 games a year at Ole Miss and pull an upset here and there but will never turn the corner! Riley has done a great job, but what has happened when he matched up SEC teams that play defense. You may be correct that we may go after a big name, but Napier is an all around good leader and can get the right staff together in my opinion.

He is a good coach and deserves a shot at a power 5 school no doubt.
My daughter is a senior at ULL and they love him. But... watching the App St game last year and several others, the dude has serious logic challenges with strategy.
He damned near snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against App St last year. It was far worse than anything Les did at LSU.
I do like him as a coach and a recruiter. We could do worse!

UL has prepared for losing Napier to an elite program and seeks a home and home with whoever poaches him with a reduced buyout. With eyes on becoming a sustainable P5 program (not G5) they want to be able benefit from Napier long after he’s done coaching in Lafayette.
LSU’s proudest power brokers don’t like the idea of LSU playing UL let alone in Lafayette or even the idea of taking UL’s coach and want to go after a big name with experience.
Tate prefers not to pay elite money and doesn’t want LSU to give out a massive contract like they just did with Orgeron. Tate’s views align with JBE (and that’s all I’ll say about that).
The rumored high end coaches like Riley and Franklin want the Orgeron championship contract and it just simply won’t happen with the current administrative setup.
Woodward put out feelers to Napier’s agent last year about the possibility of the LSU job opening up. Woodward is willing to do what other programs weren’t and that is giving Napier full control of the program with elite level money for assistants and other football staff and any upgrades to facilities that he seeks.
The talk about hiring a minority coach is purely based on Tate’s past and has no bearing on what Woodward does (which surprised me). The administration is pissed at people like Moscona for putting that out there but y’all gotta understand that Moscona is 100% telling the truth based on what HE heard, which didn’t come from Tate or the admin.
Things could change based on how it all plays out but Napier is who they’ve identified early on as a guy they want at LSU and a guy they don’t want at any other SEC program for his propensity to recruit the state of Louisiana at an elite level which will have only gotten better with this improved reputation in Louisiana high school programs.
So yeah. That’s what I’ve gathered.

You sure seem to make a lot of projections as to what other coaches cant do at LSU, but give the guy that has done nothing the biggest pass

To me the only competing options with Napier is Aranda/ Herman combo. Hire the coach on the up and up instead of overpaying a coach well past his golden years.
Anyone saying otherwise most likely has no idea who Napier is as a person and his desire to win at the highest level. That being said, we'd have to wait until season is over bc he isn't the kind of guy to cause distractions to the kids he coaches/loves

That was all before Tate
LSU will hire a minority coach, before a G5 coach. Tate wont sign off, and JBE has to recommend several BOS members for re-appointment in 2022, so he has them in the bag too
Its either a HUGE name that Tate and JBE cant refuse, or a minority at this point
Napier is no longer in the mix
