If Tech gets rid of their coach I think Sonny Dykes is the man for that spot with his dads history there.
I agree. Spike is still beloved in Lubbock, and Sonny is 14 years younger than Briles. Not to mention Sonny is a pretty good coach himself. I don't know why they'd even bother with Briles unless Sonny has expressed zero interest in going to Tech.
I'm honestly surprised Wells has been so mediocre. I thought he'd be a good fit for that program.

Lubbock has to be one of the hardest places to recruit college football players to. At 5 plus hours away, DFW is the only decent population centers to draw from and the market is saturated with bigger name programs and draws. It is legitimately in the middle of nowhere and football kids just don’t want to go to Lubbock. The facilities are great, but nobody really chooses Lubbock as their first choice of schools. You have to scheme your way to wins, and even that is getting tougher, because now everyone is doing what made them successful under Leach.

I know, it's tough. I've lived in Lubbock, still have family in Lubbock, and we had Tech season tickets when I was a kid. The fanbase understands everything you mentioned. Like I said, they still love Spike, even though he was barely bowl eligible most of the time.
That said, they still got rid of Kliff because they thought he was underachieving, and the product has continued to be underwhelming under Wells. They shouldn't be grinding out wins against Kansas and Houston Baptist.

That would be a real good hire. I’d start following Tech
