With all due respect the two situations are nothing alike. Nama had a new coach every two years and had not sniffed a SEC title in a looooong time. At least TX is still very good at recruiting and has been stable and were in a NC game 4 years ago that they would have won if colt McCoy was healthy. Very different situations they basically played in the Big 12 championship game this year for Christ's sakes it was between them and Baylor.

Texas isn't as much of a shitshow y'all claim it is.

Seriously.

Les Miles
Gus Malzahn
Urban Meyer
Chris Peterson
Jimbo Fisher
David Shaw
Bill O'Brien
Art Briles
James Franklin

I can go on...would have Texas at an elite, "top 4" level within two years. That program and team could be turned around within a year, two max. At Alabama, it took a lot more time.

You know Saban went 12-2 his second year at Bama.

The team was ranked #1 going into the SECCG in '08.

It didn't take that long to turn UA around.

Not to mention, we didn't have a single person drafted by the NFL after Saban's first season. Let that sink in.

But he forgot about all of that.

Actually the biggest problem at Texas is they won't recognize that they have problems. They are so obsessed with their aura of superiority that they refuse to acknowledge mistakes or that the world doesn't revolve around them. Everything starts with the premise to them that since "They're Texas" everything they do is the best and that everyone wants to be them.

If there was ever a case of "The Emperor has no clothes" it is Texas. This isn't to say they aren't still a very powerful and wealthy program, of course they are. They just can't get out of their own way because they just don't think the rules apply to them. What constantly amazes me is how they are able to convince others of this as well.

Mack is horrible at evaluating talent. He has now missed on three straight Heisman winners, all of whom desperately wanted to play QB at Texas.

eta - Links are Germans, but just re-iterating my point that he is horrible at evaluating talent.
Jameis Winston's dream school was Texas

Mack recruited RG3 and Johnny Manziel as DBs, didnt think they were good enough to play QB

I agree. It's looking like Texas is on an real, actual #Decline with Aggie doing "ok" in the SEC.

Difference between UT and UA being there is no Saban coming in off the clouds to save them. They will have to find their "Saban" or they're going to be a mirror of the other orange UT, imo.

Yep, a lot of time.

Mack biggest problem is developing talent. Lots of 3 star players go to SEC schools develop into studs. Not all turn into JFF or the Honey Badger, but some do. UT is just not developing their players. They get plenty of talent, Mack just doesn't do anything with it.

Agree with you 100% Scoop or LSU before Saban, alumni infighting screwed up administration etc. After we got rid of Charley Mac we were Ok for the Arnsperger years and a mess the rest of them.

I don't think the situation is hopeless.

Look, Mack is out one way or another. He'd be wise to step down now, but if not, he'll be ousted once Oregon pushes their shite in and lays 60 on them. Maybe only then will they realize how far gone their program is right now.

After he's gone, they just need a younger coach who can evaluate talent. Any number of coaches will do, quite frankly.

Overall I think Bama fans handled winning 3 of 4 as well as one could expect. Would guess many other fanbases would've been more unbearable.

Still get the feeling that most Bama fans feel NC's are a birthright. It's pretty off-putting.

ETA: And that was even before they got Saban.

The difference is that they have coaching stability and no NCAA sanctions to deal with. There's no reason they should be where they are

Agreed. Although I don't think our arrogance has ever approached their level.

For the record: Mike DuBose got the job because he played here and was a long time assistant here. The fans believed you could only coach at Bama if you had deep ties to the school. They blew up the athletic departments fax machines when Stallings retired demanding DuBose be hired.

Mike Shula was hired because Bama had slim pickings to choose from with their NCAA sanctions and because Croom couldn't interview well.

The situation at Texas is nowhere near as bad as it was at Alabama pre-Saban.

Did your program have married assistant coaches fricking chubby trainers while at bowl meetings?

Nasty old men sexual harassing ladies and end up costing your school $400k in hush money?

Your national championship winning track coach banging her athletes?

Same track coach now suing you for $1 million because of sexual and racial discrimination?

Your senile old athletic director completely bumble during conference realignment?

Same athletic director basically completely turn any non-texas fans in the state against you with that 'We are the jones' bullshite and stick his foot in his mouth with 'our worst years are better that Missouris best years'?

Is your largest donor (has statue in the stadium right next to Royal's stadium and the field is named after him) also your coach's personal lawyer and threatening to withhold money if you fire him?

Nah. I promise you while from the outside it looks like yall were about the same, their athletic department is in shambles. Its run by clowns who can't apparently keep their mouths shut and just let things play out. They have systemic problems that they need to completely clean house to fix.

UT posters said the same damn things. What a freaking mess.

No it didn't. It took exactly two years to turn it around at Alabama.
