Sulphur High Jeff Wainwright steps down

I know there a few SWLA guys around here. Even some Sulphur guys that post and read this board...
Anyone have any word on what went down? Usual Sulphur politics? Forced to resign because his defenses were god awful? Just not good enough on offense that took a step back this year? He was 1-6 overall in the playoffs since he took over.
I’m guessing it’s probably a mixture of all of the above. Anyone else got word of any news of what happened and who they’re looking at to replace him?

Started the resurgence at Kinder High before he took the Tors job, seems like he was not ready for a bigger school with high expectations but he is a good coach

I heard the same with Grand Lake. Haven’t heard anything about candidates to replace. Should be quite a few applicants to choose from. I’m interested in seeing what the Welsh coach does this offseason

Sometimes at them small schools when a football coach is successful the administration can’t handle the coach getting more attention than them. They just don’t understand the benefits of a successful athletic program in the long term.

Coach Wainwright is a great coach, but the heat was on at SHS. They look to be down next year also and I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall.
One of his former Asst. Coaches at Kinder is the superintendent of Cameron parish, apparently he is taking the Grand lake job and will also be named Parish A.D. Wainwright is a graduate of South Cameron and with all the connections it looks like he's positioning himself to move up the ranks after coaching.
Sulphurs asst. Principal is a graduate of Ascension Catholic so it is possible that Drey Trosclair could be a serious candidate.
There will certainly be no shortage of applicants from La and Tx.

What do the big 5A guys make in LA? Places like Barbe and Sulphur

Louisiana coaches aren’t getting Texas high school coach money. LHS coaches have to be compensated by the booster club to get anywhere near 100K. The school has to have a huge booster club to even get close to that number. Although Barbe high’s baseball coach does pretty damn well, he’s got a couple of national championships as well as being head coach of the Team USA under 17 team last year that won gold.

i think he makes his real money with his side businesses. i think he has one of those training groups. he may be involved with bullet baseball, too

the success of Barbe has a lot more to do with SLC baseball than GC
he's become fully ingrained in that + travel ball likely has given him those extra income avenues
you don't play for BHS without being known/chosen/taught by the coaches for years, unless you transfer in as a super stud

That’s why I gathered as well. Supposedly last interviews are this week and the coaching staff will know before Christmas break
