South Florida had the #6 ranked team in total offense last year

His offense didn't look anything like that recently at South Florida. I watched a few of heir games from this past year on you tube and I saw a really balanced offense and he used the middle of the field plenty. Maybe it was just because Texas sucks donkey balls?

That's what I said in the other thread. Hard to get really excited over more predictable offense.

Friendly Texas guy here. You guys may not be interested, but I'll give you my two cents on Gilbert.
- First and probably most important, is his offensive system and practice methods will absolutely hurt the LSU defense unless he's changed. I still can't believe Charlie Strong allowed it, but one of Gilbert's biggest things is to go full speed all practice and make corrections in film sessions the following day. For defense, no stopping during practice and correcting mistakes. This is no different than what he learned from Briles and it kills defense. If he snaps the ball under 20 seconds every play and goes 3 and out, your defense is ran ragged. That offense seriously affected the defense in a very negative way.
- He is absolutely terrified of using the middle of the field. Everything is to the edges and is VERY predictable. At Texas, he basically ran 4-5 plays and it was horrible. He refused to pass to D'Onta Foreman out of the backfield although he was an above average receiver. DB's sat on routes over and over after about 4 games into the season. Very predictable.
- He is stubborn and won't change if what he is doing isn't working.
- If his OL coach comes with him, he is very very good. However, I expected he'll be getting and OC job in the near future.
I think LSU can do much better personally but I'm by no means and expert"
You're freaking me out, baw.

I've always been leery of what bringing in a Briles or Gilbert type guy would mean for the defense. I'm not saying they wouldn't succeed, but I have my concerns.

And just who is LSU gonna get that is any better?. I swear we could hire Bill Walsh and people would still complain and find something wrong with him.

He also had a true frost playing QB at Texas. That could’ve had a lot to do with him not using the middle of the field.

Not saying he won't be good here or to be a downer, just posting info I saw to be debated...

Dude's been dead for 10 years. I'd say that's a problem.

They still averaged 31 ppg and 491 yards. I don't really know how you can bitch about those averages. Add in the fact that he had a 2k rusher and his freshman QB almost passed for 3k. That's pretty damn good in my book.
