Supposedly Our Backup candidate is FIU's S & C, who was a UT football player.

I really don't see this as a catastrophic loss...I am pretty sure assistants that have worked under him would be able to learn his methods fairly well and implement them after he is gone...besides IMO his results in the past few years haven't quite measured up to his legend.

Just thought I would add a little bit to the conversation:
1) This has NOTHING to do with Les Miles and the thought that he might have left. Moffitt is hired by the AD and serves as the strength and conditioning coach for all LSU sports programs. Granted he does not spend near as much time with the others as he does football. I say that to say this, Moffitt was not worried about losing his job here because it would not have been up to the new football coach had we gotten one, plus what new football coach would have fired the best S and C coach in the country. So with that being said we should be extremely concerned with him interviewing up there.
2) I know this is Tigerdroppings where everyone worries about money and how hot their wife is, but not all people in the real world think that way. Money is not his only motivation. In no way do i think he would turn down more money if someone offered it and it was best for him and his family, but he is not using UT to play LSU nor the other way around. If he decides that UT will be better for him and his family he will be go, but not because LSU is not willing to match any offers from other schools.

Also to those that think that you could just replace him with someone who has been under him for a while, you are an idiot. Sure someone else could hand out a sheet of paper with his workout routine that he goes by to the players and tell them to work out, but there aren't too many people out there that can motivate the players to work hard and want to get stronger and faster like Moffitt. Everyone single one of those players respect the hell out of him, and will work to the point of exhaustion to earn his respect.

Everybody thinks their S&C coach is the best in the business... except Georgia. Their guy sucked.

I know of this Moffitt you speak and he is good, but come on, he is no "god." It is resistance training, not rocket science.

true, but few get recognized as such by their peers and receive an award for it.

If it is so easy and there are so many good ones out there why is everyone trying to hire ours?

I belive Moffit is good, but I have been disappointed they have changed things for the 4th qtr program the past couple of year. I'm not sure thats Miles doing or Moffits.
LSU players going to the NFL never really wow anyone, in fact, they underwhelm and put up average numbers or below in some cases.

bullshite. Most of the players do excellent. Besides, it's their responsibility to prepare for the draft, not Tommy's.

Moffitt is considered one of the best. He worked for John Stucky at Tennessee from 94-98. He is from Springfield, TN and graduated from Tn tech. He has turned us down before. I think his wife is from Louisana....
But I think having worked with Dooley at LSU may help us. He could stay though. I think he had some heart problems and maybe that as well as being close to wife's family are to much. Never know. I hope we land him just for the stability. We have had 4 or 5 different S&C coaches in the last 4 years and that is never good.

Not true, Tyson Jackson was the third pick in the draft two years ago because he was such a freak at the combine. Which is a direct reflection on Moffitt. The fact that Jackson has been a disappointment even further proves that point, because the Chiefs were willing to use the number three overall pick on a player with an incredible physical upside, but with subpar d-line ability. He is the strength and conditioning coach not the D-line coach, or wide receiver coach, or quarterback coach.

besides Bowe no one is really doing anything outstanding.

He is one top 5 strength coaches in college football. Also, one of the highest paid.

think about how stupid this comment really is.

Is it possible Moffitt received the same encouragement from Miles as Crowton?
I know this is going to result in me being flamed, but we did get dominated in the trenches often and the cramp issues have been discussed ad naseum.

Cramping is not on Moffitt, cramping is on the dumb arse kids not drinking enough water and hydrating!!!!

Please, please don't leave. He's done a hell of a job on Montgomery, Mingo, Nevis, Mathieu, Peterson, Ridley, Caliborne, Dworacyzk, Hebert and so many others...
And this time we're not being sarcastic.

Tommy Moffitt is a great coach. He brings an intensity that is contagious. That being said, there a lot of great strength coaches out there.
Moffitt's program is (was- I do not know exactly what they are doing now) based on Olympic lifts. Cleans. These have their place but there are other options.
Many of the strongest individuals in the world train under Louie Simmons at Westside Barbell using the conjugate method employing max effort and dynamic effort work. It works for powerlifters and can be used with athletes as well. Joe DeFranco, out of New Jersey has shown some pretty impressive results.
A popular program from Nebraska's heyday called Bigger, Stronger, Faster simply used linear progression.
Then there is the machine-based, Nautilus, HIT type programs popularized by Arthur Jones that some colleges and professional teams still use.
LSU has incredible facilities. Amazing things happen when you get motivated individuals training together in a competitive environment regardless of the programming.
Provided LSU takes the time to find a qualified coach, they will be fine. In summary, Moffitt would be missed. But he is not irreplaceable.
