Maybe he'll help tap that underutilized, but potent Cuban-American football talent?

Regardless of MSU fans anger, Diaz improved that defense. You can't argue the numbers. Diaz turned down Auburn 2 times for more money. Diaz left for one reason.... Miami is home. Plain and simple

BTW, Lance Thompson is a great hire! Congrats

Thompson was the one to reach out. I think it's a done deal.

He's eager. He has the respect of Saban enough to hire him 2 times at Bama, and knows the area. Massive ties and want to move up in his career, not keep making position changes.

Be very wide eyed on Turner.

Yep! But he wants in at MSU as DC. He has reached out to Mullen. He's not the DC at USCe

That wasn't Diaz... that was on your HC.

He took MSU's defense from 114th in passing defense to top 50... In fact, made the defense over all better.

Diaz has done well at every school he was DC at except Texas. Me thinks there were other problems at Texas....

I don't think many of us are that angry about Diaz leaving. In my talks with non-message board posters at least half wanted him fired.

I thought he would do ok with another year, but our tackling certainly took a step back. In his defense tho, we lost our best corner as well as a starting safety mid-season. To counter that, his D didn't really dominate anyone last year (see usm, atm, arky, bama, atm).

We have a good amount of defensive talent returning and in the pipeline, particularly at LB so hopefully we can get a hungry DC in that is a better recruiter.

MSU ranked 114th is passing D in 2014 under Collins. You ranked 57th with Diaz. That's literally 2xs better in one season. Had you not lost your starters, I think that numbers a huge improvement.

Over all defense was better too.
