Sorry, I think that's a terrible idea...Spurrier has held a grudge againt LSU since the 80's that's the kind of guy he is...he hates recruiting which is the lifeblood of any program and he's 62 years of age...sorry, it'd be just like him to coach here long enough to make sure the cupboard's empty when he resigns unexpectedly...only to laugh at LSU as he rides his golf cart into the horizon...he's that vindictive...Applewhite is a baby, let him cut his teeth at Bama before we give him a job as large as LSU's OC; Muschamp has to prove that he's truly good without Saban support...he's only been a DC at AU...let's see how he develops...LSU can afford and can attract proven assistants... and a proven head coach that comes without the baggae of a Spurrier or Tubby...

Florida is not a rotation. They're permanent. It's the Alabama/Auburn rule. Alabama insists on keeping its rivalry game with UT and Auburn insists on keeping theirs with UGA. Hence never ever a rotation with your one East permanent school.

Spurrier calls the offensive plays.

And the D-coordinator at SC ain't a bum either.

Ok - first off Spurrier was shunned by someone who no longer is part of the LSU family. Second why in the hell would you believe that a 62 year old would tank a program? He wants to ride off as a winner and we would give him that chance the fastest. As far as recruiting is concerned he will delegate that responsibility the young bloods and come in as a clean up man..

I agree Applewhite is young but as I've said he is a winner and age doesn't matter when you have that quality. He would be under a proven winner (more than Saban ever has won) and would be able to develop nicely.

Muschamp I don't know that much about other than the fire that I see him light under his players. We attacked with great power and precision while he was here and we need that fire back. Again we could do much worse than Muschamp. Its obvious that some good coaches have thought highly enough of him to give him his past opportunities and his track record is one of success.

billybob - don't you think a young guy like Applewhite would love to pick the brain of a guy like Spurrier and for the near future not mind deferring to the old ball coach?
Call me crazy but learning from one of the best trumps initiation by trial and error. And Spurrier could leave a legacy that way as well. Im just a firm believer that Applewhite will always be a winner and we one day in the future would love to have had him here while he was young so he possibly would stay.

They've always been a permanent opponent ever since we went to divisional play.

This reminds me, about 10 years ago, a few weeks after we beat them in Baton Rouge when they were ranked #1, a couple of Florida fans were at a friend's place watching another Florida game, and I told them, "Man, sucks that y'all have to play LSU every year." They both looked down at the floor, dejected, and said, "Yeah." It was only funny 'cause their program was still so much better than ours at the time.

I remember reading an interview with him a few months ago, and, yeah, he's still pissed about not getting hired here in the ?80's?. Even if he hates it at USC, it sounded like he'd never come here. Guy holds grudges like nobody's business.

Good friend of mine ex Florida player and Alum friend of Saban's told me if Satan would have left year earlier he would have taken LSU job as the talet level would give him shot at NC.

RIIIIIIIGGGHHHHTT... you do know he started USC the same season Miles started LSU????? And you do know Spurrier and Saban have the SAME agent so he knew there was a very good chance Saban was gone at the time he took the USC job. He chose USC over LSU.

Anyone who thinks Muschamp was functioning at LSU as a DC does not understand NS...NS ran our defense, period!

You can say what you will, but Spurrier would be a horrible choice for coach for LSU...maybe, he'd just screw us when he decided to leave...you know...like Carr, making it really difficult to get the best guy...everyone forgets or so it seems that the Ole Ball Coach never won a Nat'l championship until he hired Stoops as his DC...his teams are fun to watch, but you win nat'l championships with defense.

What role exactly did he have then? Were we just paying him a lot of money to tape up his fingers and wave his arms around on the sidelines like a madman?

You really think Gene Chizik has the right stuff? Maybe it's his appearance, but there is something about him that just screams "strength" coach.
