They couldn't pull an external guy because the AD should already be out of a job and SU won't give a guy enough time to build anything. Grambling is in the same boat.

I wonder why Odums left. He seemed to have had them moving in the right direction. SU hasn't done squat since Pete Richardson retired.

I agree on Grambling!! They had one of the youngest teams in the SWAC! At that level of Football you have to give it time and support!! Southern hay days was when they got a lot of local plays and LSU transfers

Odums left because SU wouldn't commit to him. I believe he wanted a 4-5 year contract and SU would only offer him 3 years. I think that's how it went down.

I somewhat agree on Grambling, but Dooley was just a bad hire at SU. He was a bad HC plus he was arrogant & stubborn. His mis-handling of Bubba McDaniel ( QB) last year was nearly unforgivable.

Somewhat agree & Hue Jackson is actually a damn good offensive mind/ QB coach & Grambling's offense was fairly good & growing. But they were young & very undisciplined ( Grambling ranked 122nd of 122 FCS schools in penalties per game/ penalty yards & penalty yards per game). Many put it on Hue instead of youth.

Looking at his record since he left, he probably should have stayed

Nah he would've gotten fired the next season because that was when Deion starting getting it rolling at Jackson St. A coach that's already not beloved wasn't surviving that.

Odoms left to go back home to North Carolina where he is from. He was not the guy for Southern. He coached in the mold of Les Miles, very risk averse on offense and good defense. That approach will get you 8 wins a season, but will never win championships.

The AD should have been fired first imho. He has fostered a losing culture and is inept at his job. He makes Joe Aleva look like a genius.
