That staff is still trying to win a Natty too. If they have success, good chance they can get promotions, more money, and don’t have to uproot their families. Not surprising he would have a tough time pulling them.
Seems many are forgetting that particular point- at worst they have a major bowl game up and possibly the CFBP.

The man hasn’t even had a press conference and you’re busting his balls. Guess what? Every decision he makes won’t make everyone happy, and jumping his case serves no purpose. Get over yourself

The only thing with all these ND assistants staying, doesn’t bold well for the new HC.. doesn’t he want to select & bring in his guys?

This. There is nothing on his resume that says he's ever had a hard time hiring great coaches. And for Christ's sake, he hasn't even been formally announced yet and asshats are doubting him already?

It was obvious that Ed O quit meddling when he got fired.
I don't understand why this keeps coming up. Has something definitively come out about him meddling or is this just poor assumption?

Ed got rid of Aranda and subsequently hired Pellini because he wanted an attacking defense. That much I am pretty sure is factual.

So why when LSU only blitzes less than 10% of the time initially and then jumped up to over 50% would it have been Ed quit meddling?

You'd think if he was having it his way they would have been blitzing more (attacking) from the start.

Thus, could it be Ed had to get on Daronte to start attacking more and that's when the defense got better?

If memory serves me right, when Saban came from MSU none of his coaches came with him. He’s done OK
You can't cherry pick one situation and assume it will be the same here. Maybe it will be, but maybe it won't.

Ed is an idiot and an emotional thinker.

He wanted "attacking defense" and we had the worst LSU Defense ever in 2020.

He then overcompensated (due to the 2 issues above) and wanted a simple defense to decrease coverage miscommunications. It was soft and basic.

After Ole Miss, Lane told him what we were doing was too simple so Ed let Jones change things up and good things happened.

Attacking doesn't necessarily mean blitzing....it is the way the DLine reacts to the play (from what O has said before)

It's the truth. I have faith he'll find someone but it seems like pulling from his old staff is going to be a challenge.

Pulling from his old staff is more complicated though. His OC is a ND grad and doesn't want to leave the university. His DC already turned us down last year, and he is a candidate to remain as DC or to possibly become the HC back at Cincy.

That AD is buying time and hiring Freeman as the HC is a task blows my mind, personally.

This.
A program like ND to hire a guy with only a couple years of coordinator experience is too much of a gamble and could set them back tremendously. I'd imagine they go hard at Fickell or Campbell

I remember that being the case in 2020 but don't remember it carrying over to 2021.

I'm not aware of this happening but believe you and makes sense.

That's a good thing, IMHO. That shows that his coaches are in demand, that they have upward mobility, and that they have some continuity.

He said it sparked after. Says the 3-4 and zero blitz has been working fantastic for the defense and the "players love it."

I remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth when none of Saban’s coaches followed him to BR.

How did that work out?

I remember the guys on Saban's new LSU staff - Fisher, Muschamp, Smart, Tucker. I don't remember any of the old MSU guys that didn't follow him. I think I'm ok letting BK name a new staff.

I feel like Kelly has been striking out early on his coordinator hires. Notre Dame's S&C coach and their RB coach have both been contacted and both indicated they are staying.

The problem is they are still in the hunt for a play-off spot and trying to see how things will shake out with the coaching hire. If it is determined that Notre Dame is officially eliminated from the play-offs after this weekend, I would expect some movement there.
