if UM fired RichRod, they would owe him $2.5M
If they hired Les Miles, he or UM would owe LSU 1.5M.
that is $4M before we even begin to discuss the salary of the HC...and Les is making $4M per year here which is about $1.5M per year more than UM has paid in the past....not even Jim Tressel makes $4M per year at tOSU...
Bottom line, UM has the money BUT it would be very un-Michigan-like to pay that scratch to hire a HC...
just sayin'

Why is it assumed Les would have to be paid the same there? People take paycuts to go home, per se.
Tressel also hasn't won an NC since 2002. That is why these other coaches are making in the $4 million+ range.
ETA: Saban was the highest paid coach in college football in 2004 at $2.3 Million/year.

Ok...what was it going to cost them to get JH?
Posted on 1/4/11 at 8:43 pm to athletemed
Spot on.
Miles would have to really want to go "home" to take a possible 25% pay cut, even making the money he is.

Agreed, but the question to me is, would Miles take a pay cut to coach for them??...that will be the question I think. How bad does want to be at Mich?

About the same, but Harbaugh has the name right now..he is the hot commodity....

word is dave brandon offered JH 5.2 mil/year with a 5 year 26 mil contract and JH turned it down because of a huge buyout if he left for the NFL. take it FWIW but that comes from the UM scout mod.

JH is expected to be named 49er coach by friday.

Are you getting that from Incarcerated Bob?

that does not make sense...what does an NFL buyout have to do with a college job??
Not trying to call you out, just want some clarification
edit: I understand that he would have a huge buyout if he left UM for the NFL...

no I got it from rotoworld but whoever incarcerated Bob is seems to be correct.
SF hired their GM today and Harbaugh seems to approve of him. Apparentyl the York's asked Harbaugh if he minded working with
Baalke (the new GM)or Lombardi (the one from nfl network) and he was fine with both.

yea if he left for the nfl his buyout would be somewheres in the 7-10mil range is what the um guys were saying. JH apparently was pissed and he wanted more money for assistants also.
frick though 5.2 mil/year, think i would say frick the nfl.
