One of Saban’s close associates reaches back out to Longhorns boosters:

“Had to sign the extension, too much heat. If you guys can wait, lets talk after January 2nd.”

Hope is alive.

Texas is going through a coaching search. They have set their sights very high. They are more than likely going to miss on the home run hires...but they will end up hiring a very good coach.

Do tell, Nostradamus...

Let me guess, your sources say Saban or Miles?

Obviously they wanted Saban and the timing got fricked up due to Mack acting like he has girl parts.

I can....the guy who they wanted told them no

And they are still working on him - they won't take no for answer.

Because there's only a few people who actually know anything, and those people rarely talk. The fact there is no news means Texas is actually doing their coaching search correctly.

You guys all skipped over the right answer in this thread.

Someone needs to win the power struggle at Texas or else it won't matter who they hire, they won't fix their problems

Its a process and its being won. Dodds is now out. Mack is now out. BMD's are still somewhat divided, but the consensus for change is becoming more cohesive. Powers most likely sealed his fate when he didn't fire Mack which he had previously had agreed to do. I doubt he'll last a year now. But your are correct. There's been a lot of infighting and there is still some, but as these major figures are eliminated, along with their aligned boosters, a more unconventional group has and is gaining power. Never before has UT gone after a coach like they did Saban and while the dysfunction proved it to unsuccessful, the causes of the dysfunction are being replaced.

Having said all that, there is a committee who is working with the new AD currently vetting potential candidates. Its been less than a week since the position was open. Saban almost happened, and now its on to Plan B.
