UGA rivals site is all on top of things and they think it's a go. Flight tracking has shown that a plane flew from Dekalb to Tuscaloosa yesterday, and has just recently flown from Tusc back into Dekalb airport and landed 30 minutes ago. BOL is reporting that Kirby just landed in Athens. The same flight aware website shows that 3 flights have landed in Athens within the last hour. Expect to hear something 100% definitive by tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

UGA is at worst equal to Bama as a program IMHO

LMAO, is that a throwback to my very poor choice of words in the Chavis thread?

Well, considering he has an offer on the table and has been in contact with our staff since before the SECCG, and we're doubling his salary, and he is from here and has family here, and it would be a beneficial career move...I'd say it means he's going to be announced as our new DC within 48 hours.

You just laid out why it would be an absolute disaster if Georgia somehow doesn't land Smart.

Alabama shouldn't pay too much for their DC for obvious reasons. I'd think Smart will end up with UGA. I just wonder if their plugging holes in a sinking ship (like LSU would be by firing Crowton and hiring Logan, etc).

The only reason the UGA ship was sinking was because of 2 horrendous coaches who have since been let go. Replacing WM with KS is an upgrade of the highest order. Also bringing in in Travis Jones from the Saints and whoever else KS wants, and we're back in business. Things are really in motion and it looks like it's gonna happen extremely soon. Done deal.

What is Georgia going to do when Alabama matches the deal, and Coach Smart stays in Tuscaloosa?

What if they don't? Would you still be laughing?

I mean, because the bottom line is that you know about as much as what you read on "insider boards." Between the Bama and UGA banter just proves that fact that no one really knows shite right now.

While we don't know 100% that he has signed, there is enough info out there that has come out in the last 24 hours that points much moreso that he's coming here than not.

Frankly, why should Alabama be worried. We have Saban. All the pressure is on Richt and Georgia. You pups have been barking about a "done deal" for a month. It's going to be funny as hell if Smart decides to stay. Again, we've been through this before. We lost one DC under Saban already, and made out for the better. We'll do it again.

Please give me a link where anybody was a "done deal" for a month. I know I sure as hell haven't said that because it's false. As I've said before, there is only 1 person (Foster) that we know for sure we offered and didn't get. We talked to Chavis but who the hell knows if he actually got a commitable offer. Nobody else was serious. Smart has been #1 since day 1 and now it's coming to a head. There's too much coming from UGA and Bama on this one in the past day to think anything other than Kirby coming at this point.

Not automatically, but it's hard to argue with the choices Saban has made in replacing staff memebers that move on. I would hate to see Kirby go, but Saban will find an adequate replacement.

i agree; but you should be nervous anytime you have to replace a coordinator. SC fans were fully confident in their new OC/DC because they just plug in the next guy and the wins roll in until this year. remember opie cunningham as OC?
