I don't want Croom b/c LSU can afford a higher profile and more proven coach.

But this was a moronic statement:
"There are no black coaches with a good enough resume to be given a chance at a prestigious football program."

Turner Gill at Nebraska for starters. But really, what a general statement. None? Have you researched? Give me a break.

I didn't say that.

Here is my take. You are the number one team. You hire proven winners, preferrably with some championship experience as a coach, not a player or assistant.

I'm looking around college football and dont' see anyone that fits that criteria that is Black. which is why I said there were some black pro head coaches I would take. Nix is an assistant. So is Strong. Shannon is a bust so far. Croom, losing record. TW? was given keys to the car at ND and blew it. class act but not a good coach. UCLA's isn't setting the world on fire. need I continue?

Do you not see what you're doing?

Essentially, you are saying that b/c a few black coaches are doing mediocre, that all other college level black coaches are not qualified.

I think Croom would recruit well and win at LSU. But they would ride his arse to death. One f*ck up and he's gone. Well Bertman would give him 3 years easy. And as far as being "mediocre".. wasnt Miles a bit mediocre at Oklahoma State.. he'd beat the big dogs every now and then but pretty much was an average team.

BUT, he wouldnt be my first choice in coach. Not aggressive enough for me.

point out the ones to me that right now are in 1-a at major programs. I didn't say don't hire one. I said where is one that is has a winning record at a major program. I like TW. But he was given ND and it was a bust. Washington didn't impress me this year. I like Nix. Saw him a lot at USM. He just needs to move up in a year or two to head coach some where.

heres my problem with Croom, his offensive play calling makes Woody Hayes look agressive. And if he's not calling the plays, he's allowing somebody to call the plays....and they look really bad, like Shula's offense did at Bama....

That's horribly ignorant.

So you wouldn't take Romeo Crennel? Tony Dungy? Marvin Lewis? Herm Edwards?

No resumes on those guys... right?

Its McCorvey. That is one reason I don't want Croom. McCorvey is not a good OC but Croom is sticking by him no matter what.

Joe Dean never got that memo.

First, I think the fear that we can't hire a black coach because there would be a backlash if we fire him is kind of silly. Hell, I think there's a backlash whenever any coach is fired. So what. I think in big time college football the color that reigns is green. If any coach stinks it up they'll be fired and I don't think the people in power will be cringing over a backlash.

Second, I'd be very hesitant to hire Croom over another fear. It might be equally ignorant but I still have it: It's the fear of what happened the last time we hired a coach from a mediocre Mississippi University. The spectre of Hallman scares me a hell of a lot more than the spectre of any real of imagined marches by Jessee Jackson or Al Sharpton
