Yea ok. That's why he is still an officer of the corporation.

What story is there other than he signed an extension at Alabama? This thread was dreamt up in the OP's head.

Has he even signed it?

Malzahn signed an extension, too. Yet he's also the subject of rumors.

All that matters is the buyout. Everyone is a candidate until someone actually takes the job.

He didn't sign yet, it's still a verbal commitment. Even if it was signed, without a buyout it doesn't really have any teeth. Even with a buyout, Texas boosters have enough money to do what would be necessary to make it happen. See where this is headed?

The fact is until a new coach is announced at UT, EVERY coach is still in play.

Like I said, I don't think he's going anywhere.

But to think that something he said on 60 Minutes a couple of months ago would be what keeps him from leaving is just silly.

A $3 million pay raise per year for somebody who just got a $2 million pay raise per year?

I know it's cute and clever for so many on this board to act like Saban is some mercenary out for hire to the highest bidder but I've got to think he feels like $7 million is more than enough already. Sure, his agent played Texas but I think he never seriously considered leaving Bama.

Whereas I can actually see why Les Miles would be very tempted to leave Baton Rouge and the reasons why have absolutely nothing to do with money.

Saban is on the road to being the most revered coach in Alabama history. Miles is probably about as beloved as Cholly Mac. Half the fanbase would immediately breathe a sigh of relief if Texas hired Miles. The meltdown would begin when they realize that Alleva is in charge of hiring Miles' replacement.

I do wonder if Miles is holding out to see if Brady Hoke gets fired next year. Otherwise, I think he listens to Texas. After Art Briles and a bunch of NFL coaches tell Texas no, Miles might look like a much more attractive prospect.

Either way, I see Saban retiring at Bama but I do not see Miles retiring at LSU.

Anybody who followed the Bronx Zoo New York Yankees of the late 70s - early 80s has seen far stranger shite than the idea of Saban to Texas.

Give it a f**king rest!

Besides, beating Li'l Nicky 4 out of the next 5 years will be more fun than watching him struggle in Austin, anyway.

Are you kidding? $3 million per year for even five years in a state with no state income tax is an egregious amount of money to pass up, especially if he's as family oriented as people claim he is and he thinks about the extra money he could leave to kids and grand kids.

You have got to be kidding with this statement.

Just ignore it if you don't like it, but certainly don't feed it like this.

Nope.

I don't think Saban is as greedy as y'all think he is.

Sure, he'll let his agent get market value for his services.

But I don't think $10 million would have motivated him to leave for Texas. He doesn't need a new challenge in the college football world and it's hard to imagine him being more popular or more successful than he is right now (at the college level). I could see him being tempted by the NFL with the right offer but again it wouldn't have anything to do with money. With the right NFL team, he could very well be tempted to make another go at the big show.

But let's be honest -- none of us know WTF Saban really thinks or feels. This is what my gut tells me. Other people's guts tell them Saban is all about the almighty dollar and cares about nothing else. They are entitled to their opinion same as I am.

I don't think you have to be a heartless mercenary to seriously consider a $100 million offer. In fact, i think you'd have to be a total moron not to at least seriously think about that kind of offer.

This just in: Saban is not a total moron.
