Makes all the sense in the world actually.
A. He's older and going to have to retire in the next ten years easily so it's now or never on the seeing just how much he can make, and even though Bama would PROBABLY match it, Texas making the offer first makes you feel a lot more special than the boss grudgingly matching it.
B. Nobody moves to Tuscaloosa to retire. Especially not if you're worshiped as a god by toothless stinking trash and can't set foot out your house without them thinking they know you and can come up and bug you. Whereas with Austin people actually do move there to retire and the equivalent low class don't even speak the language and don't know/care who he is.
C. If he's close to retirement anyway, why not move to where you're going to retire now, make big bank as long as you can, win another NC in a third school, and go down as the greatest in history completely undisputed?

Smartest thing I've heard out of a Bama fan on the Topic. I just heard on an Austin ,TX sports radio show that they have confirmed that Saban closed on a house in Lakeview just outside of Austin.

The hilarious thing about all of this is that the information is coming from people like that kid, then it ends up on message boards, and then the message boards link each other, and somewhere along the line, the original "source" gets lost. It's a circle of pure bullshite
