I'm totally fine with Smart going to AU to be a head coach. I just want him to coach in the championship game.

Dude when it comes down to it, its a job. It isnt about rivalries. Most coaches know this including Saban. Its not like Saban is a die hard bama fan, he's the coach.

Yeah it's just a business. Smart just coached against his own alma mater in the SECCG.

Similarly, I felt bad for Mike Shula when he walked into the situation he did at Alabama.
Since I've been following Cam in Carolina, Shula has really stayed out of the spotlight. People have said that when Chud leaves he could be an OC candidate but it doesnt seem like it's something he's really pushing for? I think he took the Bama job based on expectations he was unable to fulfill
I think Smart may be similar in that people are expecting him to be a HC but I don't know how much he really wants it? IMO, there's nothing wrong with maintaing a Chavis-like role througout your career

Haha I searched "Kirby Smart" on Twitter and all these "bammers" are getting pissed and saying things like "he's dead to me!" and "Please say it's not true!" and "Kirby don't do it!!" Lol![]()
quote:
If true, I can't wait to start tweeting the bammers stuff like "Haha, let's see how good you do against ND without your #1 defense" and "That's what you get fro saying we suck and don't deserve to be in the SEC"
quote:
Oh well, if it's Smart that's okay. Cause we will have taken the best thing away from Bammer that we can... their defense. And right before one of the biggest games of their football career too!
quote:
I would so be an arse and rub it in all the faces of my Bammer friends, even the really great ones. And I would smile like some evil genius because we would have the precious!!
quote:
I had some fun with some bama buddies of mine, telling them we offered Kirby. Most were in disbelief, but didn't seem too upset. Every one of them flipped out when I told them Scott Cochran would come with Kirby. Good times.
quote:
Me either, but we can still dream. If they did loose (sic) and we had KS I would be tough on bammers
quote:
Being Smart is our weapon... What better weapon against the turds is one of there (sic) own. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of every player on the team. He knows Coach Satan better than anyone else in football. It is like having a spy that has infiltrated the enemy and has been gathering information for years. This really is a "SMART" hire! WDE!!
quote:
One thing, Smart would not coach at the BCS game which would weaken Bama a bit so that's almost worth the hire itself![]()

That does not = "warming up BECAUSE it will anger Bama fans". But if you want continue trying to put yourself at the center of our universe because we're at the center of yours, go for it.
Case in point.

Be back soon...I need to go get ready to start some threads saying Kirby was just a warm body, Nick did all the defensive coaching, the players weren't responding to Smart the last two years, and Nick Saban is only allowing this because he has a secret deal with Bill Belichek to become DC, because he convinced Bill that coaching is much more fun at the college level.

I FULLY agree. I have friends who went to Harvard because they thought it was the best, and I have friends who went to smaller schools because they were a better fit. The people who are self aware and know where they thrive, rather than people who do stuff because it's expected, always end up more successful and happy.
That said, there is room for trying out stuff to see if you like it. I don't really think Auburn needs a "try it out" coach right now. The payoff could be amazing, but it could also be disastrous.

Bham News=Trash Dump
Pitiful excuse of a news organization.
Anyway, Saban and Kirby are just getting a feel for what Aubs. Is doing. All part of the evil plan to take over the world.

He must have absolutely killed it in interviews. That's the only way I can see him being the front runner for a committee of Auburn Grads
I am genuinely in shock right now

Maybe Smart was thinking Richt would get axed a couple years ago when he was on the hotseat and he would get his alma mater job. Maybe that's what he was waiting for but now obviously Richt's job is secure. Georgia fans wanted him then too.
Gotta admit, it's gonna be weird as shite (for both sides) if he becomes Auburn's coach. It doesn't piss me off... it's just... weird. I never considered it.

Whatever you want to call it - the Auburn fans that ARE warming up to the idea are ONLY warming up to the idea because in their mind it will hurt Bama or Bama fans.
That's a fact.
Go read your own message boards and get back to me.
And when you get back, answer this question honestly:
If Kirby Smart was the DC at any other school in the country, would there be even a small percentage of Auburn fans excited about the posibility, or would you people riot?

How does this compare to the Muschamp buzz in 2008? I wasn't on a message board, and I lived in another state, so I didn't see how much of a "sure thing" it was. I remember driving down the road where I lived and hearing the announcement on the radio, and being somewhat shocked, and then I remember later that day hearing it wasn't true.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. I think if he had some experience outside of Saban, even as a DC at another school like Muschamp, there wouldnt be so much hesitancy
I don't know, I guess I'll have to hope he becomes the CFB Mike Tomlin. Young with no HC experience but turns out to be one of the best

They should take Petrino. It's who their fans want. Let them have him.
The man is completely hopeless against Saban.

Well, to be fair, he would have to be the DC at another school that has had amazing success at fielding great defenses and coaching under the recognized best coach in college.
So, IF Smart were DC under Saban at School X and School X was having "Bama success"...then probably excited

I agree. I think it's combination of some Auburn fans thinking it will hurt Alabama, Kirby is probably the best candidate available from the coordinator position, and strong possibility of holding good recruiting class together.

Get a proven HC! Petrino!
Smart may be able to beat Saban or he may not. We don't know.
Petrino has proven that he is utterly hopeless against Saban.

Well, that's certainly not why I warmed up to it, nor why most everyone I've talked to is. But honestly,

That point would make a whole lot more sense if we didn't try to hire the Texas DC last go-round.
