Like I said, he's had offers before and we thought he was gone and he stayed.
It's not about loyalty, but what he wants to do and where he wants to go with his career.

Yeah, vandy.

Exactly. He would jump at the chance in all likelihood.

Or maybe he has a track in mind and plans on being at Bama x more years before he leaves and he's just getting his feet wet and testing the waters and his value.
Yeah he probably wants to be the next Bud Foster

Well, wait and see. If AU offers, Kirby will probably have to think about it for all of 1.5 seconds. Maybe less.
You've no doubt heard that Smart is the most likely successor to Saban one day. Maybe he wants that. If he goes to Auburn, that will never happen.
You don't know the man. So you have absolutely zero reason to just assert that he would immediately take the job without hesitation. You have absolutely NO REASON to assume that. None.

I've thought he's here for one more yr, unless Tenn offered or Arky. However, if he's got a legit offer from Au, I can see him going. If he does, best of luck to him, save for one game a year. He's done a fantastic job at Bama and if he can better himself by doubling or tripling his salary, at a good school, then you can't really hold ill will towards him. (I still think Au sells their soul for Petrino though
)

I have absolutely no doubt you are an intelligent person, TnM, but sometimes I think the auburn cloud just permeates into your thought processes and taints it all.
Let's both do the best we can to step away from our respective biases about auburn. It is a major program and 5 years ago, it would be an obvious move for almost anyone in Smart's situation. And it MAY still be. But there are very reasonable considerations that may keep him from taking it. One, moving from Alabama to auburn is difficult, even for coaches who aren't caught up in the rivalry. Second, while none of us know the severity or extent, we know that the NCAA has been gathering info that includes auburn (possibly among others). And his current situation us about as good as it can get for an assistant - high pay, consistent success - unless he doesn't like working with Saban, which is possible but at this point he seems to deal with it well.
He MAY go to auburn, but anyone who thinks it's a slamdunk obvious decision is not being rational.

He would have 20 million reasons to leave immediately. Think for a second man. I understand Alabama is gods gift to the football world, but if he's offered the job you're an idiot to think he'd stay as a coordinator. If he remains, it's because he wasn't offered the job.

This thread is another reason why I have given up hope trying to reason with aubs. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, but this is far too often the norm. Any hope for intelligence gets drowned out by that perverted combination of Bama hate and "all in/God's team/the CREED" bullshite.

Bobby Bowden was about as coherent as corso is at the end of his career.

Tuscaloosa News:
"University of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has interviewed for the head coaching position at Auburn, but the Crimson Tide’s sixth-year assistant coach might not be a primary candidate for the Tigers, sources close to the situation confirmed to The Tuscaloosa News on Monday night.
Smart, 36, has been among the most sought-after assistant coaches in the nation since last year, when he was tied to several job openings before ultimately remaining with the Crimson Tide and receiving a pay raise."

Ok. It is really not a topic worthy of discussion to me (whether Kirby will have to seriously think about it). I do not see any way it is not a slam dunk decision IF AU offers. It is a huge step up in money, prestige, and career. The rivalry between the schools is not an impediment. For some fans yes, for a top professional that makes seven figures, no way.
The NCAA is a non-issue. There is nothing serious going on there. Can't believe people still bring this up. Trooper is out recruiting on the road and there are practically zero worries about anything serious happening in AU. A non-factor.

No, if offered, he WILL ABSOLUTELY TAKE THE JOB. And you're only fooling yourself if you think otherwise. You don't turn down 20 mil to stay and play second fiddle to your hc. No matter who you are.

I forgot one important point - some very well known coaches struggled with the power brokers at auburn. Alabama had a huge problem in that area until probation and mediocrity set the stage for Saban to come in and demand control. Until something similar happens at auburn, many top coaches would be hesitant.

Jay's proven head coach winds up being Pat Dye's choice.
