I feel like this is all going to come crashing down in a few weeks.

We'll get a TBL post saying something like:

"OU countered hard. Boosters came out and offered to restructure Riley's contract. Getting more for assistants and staff as well. It was always going to be a tough pull and Woodward did everything he could".

This is my biggest concern at this point. It always seems to go like that for LSU. We screw around with a guy we don't have a lot of chance of getting and end up losing out on the guys we could have gotten like Dave Aranda. You can almost see the writing on the wall already. Maybe it'll be different this time around, but I have my doubts.

And OU will still be at best the fourth best team in the SEC.

It’s the combination of $$$ and championships.

LSU has both

$$$ + National Championships = LSU

OU can only hope to get close to LSU $$$.

And they can’t get anywhere near the championship side of the equation.

You mean essentially what happen when Herman was a "done deal" to LSU?

There is enough smoke to suggest there are at least serious discussions between LSU and Riley's reps. But my NO MEANS do I think anything is a "done deal."

He's the HC of one of the top programs in college football. A program who had enough belief in him to give a very young first time HC the keys to the program. A program where he has been very successful. A guy who has two pets named "Boomer" and "Sooner"! (according to Wikipedia). That is a HARD pull for a competitor. I can't remember many, if any, recent instances where a HC left one major conf. program where he was having tremendous success (I would say 54-9, 4 conference championships and three playoff appearances is pretty good success) to make what could arguably be considered a lateral move. Even with Jimbo to A&M there were a few years of grumblings he was unhappy at FSU and his final year there was bad.

Perhaps the only recent parallel is Kim Mulkey. From the outside looking in she had ZERO reason to leave the Baylor program she built from the ground up. But even then, there was the pull to Louisiana as her home state.

Getting Riley to leave Oklahoma would be one hell of a coup. Maybe the biggest coaching coup in 20-30 years. If LSU is close, it is time to bring in the recruiting closer....
