Revenge against the REC?: Another Motive for Jimbo to Come to LSU

Pretty sure FSU was offering Jimbo a HCIW position. Why would he have taken a simple OC position at Alabama?

He's coming to Lsu. He's the guy and Florida state is asking do u want him gift wrapped or prefer use of our team plane. I think they've added n they will help with the moving expenses as well.

So they can get back on track winning the Acc would be my guess.

I did not feel like starting another thread on this but here is an FSU article on Jimbo and the rumors. Oddly enough at the bottom of the article there is a poll of about 5-6 choices of whether Jimbo would go certain places or stay at LSU. 41% of respondents said he would go to LSU while only 30% said he would stay at FSU...

Alabama, with the possible exception of Notre Dame, is the most feared and respected program in the country. They are also willing to pay whatever it takes to a proven coach, in other words, more money than FSU could match. The program is in good working order, the cupboard is anything but dry. Georgia is a program not as well established and respected as Alabama or LSU, but they do have the money, facilities, players, recruits, fans and conference going for them as well. it would be more of an LSU situation as systems would have to be installed, but the advantage would be playing on the East side of the conference. Georgia is also well positioned to contend for a national championship immediately.



South Carolina is a program that is on the map solely due to being a final resting place for legendary coaches. Namely, Lou Holtz, but mainly Steve Spurrier. The talent cupboard is a lot more barren there, and so are the coffers and facilities. Recruiting would be a lot tougher at South Carolina as well. I only leave them on the list of possibilities for intangible factors which I'll get to later.



Downsides, the minuses.



With any new job of this nature, there are universal downsides for changing positions. More work for one thing. Assembling a new staff, working to sway existing FSU recruits and working to keep recruits already pledged to the other school, meeting and learning the new players, learning where the new office is to start with, MOVING, which is in itself a major big deal, learning new roads, where the grocery store is, buying a new house, all those type of things. Those can be downsides.



Alabama really expects to win all of its games. Every one of them. Theoretically, they are the most talented team on the field every week regardless of the competition. They are accustomed to national titles. They have a LOT of them. They have big shoes to fill. Bear Bryant's memory is alive and well, but now, there is the recent success of Saban to factor in as well. The SEC west is no cakewalk. Overrated perhaps, but its the toughest conference in the country and has been for a good while. Alabama fans and boosters are a very demanding bunch. They aren't particularly patient, especially given the fact that the cupboard is full and they are used to playing for the highest stakes. Jimbo has been the man to replace the man before, and his record is a very successful one, but Alabama is a stressful job and higher profile than FSU, LSU, or any other coaching position discussed here.



At LSU, Jimbo already knows the lay of the land. LSU expects to win, but their expectations aren't quite as high as Alabama's. It's the same type of high stress job, but to a lesser degree than Alabama. LSU doesn't have the same legacy as Alabama. LSU does however, have to contend with Alabama on an annual basis. If Les Miles is let go, losing to Alabama will be a major factor in that decision. At LSU, Miles' record is 110-32 with a national championship, and an appearance in another one. If you're counting, that's averaging 11 wins a year during his 10 year tenure, and making the championship game an average of 20% of the time. That's an insanely good record. If that isn't good enough to keep a job, then the next coach better make sure there's a nice buyout clause in the contract, because the coaches with better records can be listed on one hand. Coaches and teams have down years, all of them.



Likewise, Georgia comes with high expectations, as really does every major winning college program. If Richt is dismissed, it will be because he wasn't able to take them to the highest stage when they had all the pieces in place to be there, multiple times. Clemsoning sounds catchier than Georgiaing, but the latter is more accurate over the past five years or so.



South Carolina has the lowest expectations of any of the teams, and the barest cupboard on top of it. Again, the only reason that South Carolina even makes this discussion is because of other intangibles.
