just my opinion, alleva made the hire to save face on a national level. it would look worse for lsu to wait on herman only for him to go to texas. i think alleva felt like thats where this situation was trending so he pulled the trigger on o

That's probably true. Basically, they had no backup plan and got played by Sexton and Herman's agent.

If it's true Herman said he'd come for $6M, Alleva could have been decisive: be here to sign a contract by 5pm or it's over.
That ends it. No additional leveraging, no additional negotiating: we accept your terms, now come sign your contract.
If there was any waffling or confusion, you back out and hire O. You don't turn down the best coaching prospect out there to save a little money.

we really don't know how the negotiations went down, suppose we started at lower number and the herman camp kept increasing it. i really think hermans agent wanted to keep lsu at the table while waiting on tx. as soon as tx officially opened it was done
