Les is fine in his current strategy.

My guess is that they aren't going to be interested, and he will never get the call.

By not inserting himself into the process, he keeps the door open for somewhere down the road.

Forget about the media, they just need something to talk about and they will try to keep it going, but there's really nothing there yet.

If Michigan doesn't have a coach by Christmas, then yes, they are probably waiting for Les to come free, but my guess is they will already have hired someone.

Chances are this is Miles' one and only shot at the Michigan job (he is 54 y/o), and he knows it.

He WILL get a call and don't fool yourself.....if he doesn't then UM is dumber than I thought.

There are two ways to read all of the outward, tangible signs:

One is that he is clearly going to Michigan, but cannot say so publicly, as it will pretty much cinch LSU losing two out of the next three games with all of the consequent talk when a coach actually takes another job. The seniors have gone through this once and may be able to help. There is the argument that it won't be much better until Michigan actually names a coach, but the possibility and the reality are, to me, two very different environments.

The other vibe (and I was wrong about this when the WVMD left) I am getting is the timing-- Les used the word as though he were thinking out loud (The timing on this thing...), implying that two years ago, or two years from now, this would be a much easier deal, but now, right here in the middle of a championship run... He also said a couple of things, "They haven't called and it would be unfair to suggest that they should." The desire to not disrespect the Michigan program (he did jokingly and rhetorically ask, "Who would leave LSU to go to Michigan?", either in his first year, or after he was hired but before he ever coached a game, but he did it with a chuckle) and the desire not to hurt LSU are in direct conflict. If he really wanted to take the job, he could just have said "No comment", or "I will not comment on the Michigan vacancy until January 8th, Elvis' Birthday". However, he said that we should let it rest and to trust him to not do anything to hurt LSU. I read that as either 1.) He hasn't made up his mind, but he's leaning towards staying, or 2.) He's made up his mind that he's staying and he doesn't want to disrespect Michigan.

And the fact he has not done this says he is gone. imho.
