I don't think he had a choice to stay at Auburn. It is also clear that his wife could not handle being in the spotlight at a high profile school. He just better be ready for ULM.

I had some of the same thoughts as well. I had a lot of questions and and doubts. A lot of things were crossing my mind. But after listening to Gus in the presser, I realized that his aim and words are true.

He could have stayed. He loved it at Auburn and he was loved and respected in return. His wife is "atypical" to say the least, but I don't think there were any "behind the scene" problems. That's all assumptions and I was guilty as well, but I now believe it was erroneous speculation on my part.

He stated that he owed it to Auburn to coach in the bowl game. He owed it to the players. I couldn't detect anything but appreciation and respect for ASU and AU.

Gus wants to be the next hog coach once petrino is gone.

I can see that as a possibility, but not in the near future, thank goodness. Hail to Bobby!

In some ways, I think Gus may believe he needs to "return home" to hone some of skills as a HC in an environment that will be much more conducive to it, before throwing himself into a big time job with all it's pressures.

Freeze left him a loaded team in terms of Sunbelt that he can possibly take to a BCS bowl in his first season. Then the 4 million dollar jobs open.

He did this move exactly right. Those who were criticizing him for not taking more money with Vandy last year, hide and watch.

CGM will be making bank at a high-profile job, maybe as soon as next year.

Book it!

I just want Auburn to be competitive again. I like beating you guys, but not like that. I was just thinking someone has to stop this.

to me, it looked like Gus thought he'd missed his window... another mediocre year in 2012 and even the stAte's of the world would have second thoughts...

it was a perfect opportunity to get home, and to (as mentioned above) hone skills as a HC... If he's successful, he'll be taking off to greener pastures quickly.

This is all nice but he was gone to UNC until his wife got out of place.

I'm hesitant to speculate though I think he'll be at ASU for at least 4 years. Who knows? I think he'd love to have the Arkansas job but I don't see that being available for some time. We're happy with Coach Petrino and I think Coach Petrino likes it at Arkansas.

One thing for sure, ASU is fortunate to have him. It should help their program immensely.

If he is, then he will not have been very successful there.

That's something we'll probably never really know or need to know.

That's why I said at least 4 years. I think it will be quite a bit longer. Who can say? A lot can happen between now and then. And I do believe he's committed to longer term success at ASU.

If I had been the AD, it would have definitely have been weighed into the equation but we'll probably never really know.

I do think it's safe to speculate that she won't be involved with any recruiting or interviews of that nature in the near future.
