His often smug attitude toward the media and a lot of people he probably thought didn't matter is surely haunting him now.
This and there is little doubt in my mind that he believes that Long did him wrong and that attitude shows.

Hiring Petrino could be the best way to get a coach to stay in Jonesboro for a few years. I'm not sure how well the cupboard is stacked over there with Aplin graduating and having to hire a new coach every year.

NO! He is a cancer to the sport as a head coach and hopefully no college or university touches him.

You really believe Petrino would stay at A State more than a season or two at the most?
lol did you buy into Gus's "building the Boise St of the south" to?

Point of my post was that he may not win enough to jump immediately, not that he wouldn't.
I think stAte would be a good fit for Petrino to get his shite figured out. And what was Gus supposed to say? "Hey Wolf fans, I can't wait to get my arse out of the Boro, hopefully this is just a one year speed bump to a real job!"

If he harbors any resentment toward anyone or anything other than his own actions, it will show. If not, then that will show as well and he'll have a chance to recover, but it might take some time to convince those doing the hiring.

I'm rooting for Missouri to hire Petrino next year if they fire Pinkel
It would add some interest to the MU/Arky stuff if MU hired their former football coach two years after Arky hired MU's basketball coach

That wouldn't go over well with DGB's momma. It wouldn't bother me much though. Re: Mike Anderson...he coached a lot longer at Arkansas than he did at Missouri. They weren't that surprised or upset.

He's going to have to go to a mid-major for a couple of seasons and behave like a saint before he gets another big-time job. Either that or hope there's some desperate dumpster fire of a program out there that's willing to take the PR hit.
Like an earlier poster said, it wasn't the women on the side, it was the fact he hired one of them. That set up Arkansas for all sorts of sexual harassment suits.

Didn't the statement he released after being fired say something like "according to Jeff Long's version of events"?
More or less took a parting shot at Long there, IMO. Dude is a severe douche. Good coach, though. I have no idea how he can expect to be able to recruit now.

Colorado will take him after every other coach in America turns them down.

I never bought into the harassment lawsuits "paranoia" as a main reason for the firing (in regard to this situation) because firing him would not prevent the lawsuits, but it was a stupid thing to do by getting intimately involved with anyone other than his wife and hiring them. The hiring definitely could have led to a problem. It just didn't in this situation.
I do believe the main problem that got him in hot water started way before the motorcycle incident. He had turned off a lot of people by his smug attitude and lack of humility. When/if he makes changes in regard to his personality issues, he can be very successful and popular because he's a very smart coach. But if he's not smart enough to realize what's holding him back and doesn't deal with his character issues, he may never find any success remotely close to what he's had up to to this point.
I hope he realizes this.

Yeah, but if you do something that potentially sets up your employer for all sorts of liabilities, you're likely going to be punished regardless if anything happens. An employer isn't going to wait until something like this plays out.
And who knows, maybe Arkansas figured dumping Petrino might give them a little bit of cover from any future lawsuit. Maybe they could settle for less by saying "We terminated the coach after we discovered there was a problem."

It definitely played a part. There were other factors as well and obviously it's biting him in the butt. Some school might hire him soon but it also wouldn't surprise me if he gets to cool his heels for a while.

Radio chatter this morning has several of the infamous "sources" saying Arky St. is getting ready to pull the plug & hire him. Not sure as to the why, as he'll bail out of there as soon as he wins big one season. A.D.s have notoriously bad memories when faced with the pressure to win, and some major college will hire in the next yr or so, count on it.
