Our last two coaches liked to eat grass and rip off his shirt

I think whoever we bring in going to be an upgrade. Both of these dolts weren’t the recruiters they were made out to be.
Cory Raymond and Frank Wilson got the talent for Miles and he showed up for the ribbon cutting.
Orgeron turned roster management over to Pomnansky in order to justify a raise. When Woodward came in he saw how fricked up this was and hired Austin Thomas back from A&M.
We going to be okay

I agree we will upgrade, but this comment isn’t true.
You could say Miles couldn’t develop a QB, and Orgeron was a buffoon, but recruiting hasn’t been an issue with either.

But they could recruit. The same can’t be said for Aranda and Campbell

We didn't recruit well for our scheme at all.
If I'm not mistaken we lost most of our recruiting classes to the portal or didn't use them correctly.
On paper we recruited well.

Uh, yes it has. Recruiting doesn’t stop when they sign. Our class attrition under O has been the primary reason we are where we are right now.

Recruiting and developing/coaching are not the same.
By your logic, how many LSU players are in the NFL?
How is LSU at the top of NFL rosters but hasn’t recruited well?
Are there areas, Oline especially, Orgeron has lacked, yes!
Did Miles have bad luck with top QB’s backing out for MLB, or “no chest”, Yes.
But overall recruiting was not the issue. Changing the offense was for Miles, and hiring competent coordinators for Orgeron.

I said nothing about development. That is a separate problem.
Keeping the players you recruit actually on the team is absolutely part of recruiting.
Just getting someone to sign might make for pretty 247 rankings, but it's irrelevant if they transfer/fail out/quit to pursue to a singing career/etc.

Where are people coming up with this bs. Can someone provide some factual content to these recruiting statements ?
As far as Campbell is concerned, I've been told Ames, Iowa is akin to Starkville in its BFE status. Campbell must be doing something right, because Iowa State is regarded as a basketball school with zero football pedigree, and now its HC is considered a top candidate for one of the premier jobs in CFB.

The portal didn’t even exist during the Miles era. So what are you even talking about?
And how many significant players have we lost to the portal under Orgeron? (Not for failing classes or drug test) Again what are you talking about?
Using them correctly is coaching, not recruiting.

Recruiting O-line is what got them both fired.

How many players did Miles lose to transfers?
How many players did Orgeron lose to the portal?
Give us some numbers.
This is about recruiting. Again, LSU has been at the top of NFL rosters for two decades.
We have made 3 national championship appearances in the same time.
Our recruiting classes have been in the top 10, for the most part in the same time period.
You are making things up because both were dolts. Again, it had nothing to do with recruiting.

Do you have any proof Aranda can recruit both sides of the ball at an elite level?

Is that a serious question? (While most of these were portal, I included people who also left or got kicked off the team)
Kelvin Joseph (4*)
Marcel Brooks (5*)
Ika (4*)
Gilbert (5*)
Ricks (5*)
Travez Moore (4*)
Davin Cotton (4*)
Rosenthal (4*)
Hampton (4*)
Ray Parker (4*)
Donte Starks (4*)
Peter Parrish (4*)
I could go on if you'd like.
And while I acknowledge some of those players--like Gilbert--have not done anything since transferring, that too reflects poorly on recruiting since it was a mis-evaluation.

No. This whole thread…

Thank you.
Also, players who left for more playing time, who would otherwise never contribute.
Gilbert should have an asterisk.
Ricks isn’t gone yet. Let’s see what happens with a new coach hiring.
I’ll give you a couple on there. But still, there’s a lot of things you can call Orgeron, a bad recruiter is not one of them.
ETA: Tell me which player Orgeron lost to the portal who was better than one he got in the portal?
Works both ways

One thing you're going to learn about me is I always have data to back up what I say, so calling me out for "making stuff up" is never going to end well for you.
It's been about 2 months since I updated these numbers but...
Of the 69 players we've recruited since 2018, 25 left the team for reasons not draft related. This includes 13 of our 36 4*s and 3 of our 7 5*s.
From our 2018 recruiting class (22 signees), 12 left the team for reasons not related to the NFL draft.
From our 2019 recruiting class (25 signees), 8 left the team for reasons not related to the draft.
From our 2020 class (22 signees), 5 have left for reasons not related to the draft (though Bradford returned). I'm sure you'll quibble with Ricks being included in this count, but O is still the coach.
Yeah yeah you can nitpick that I didn't limit this to portal, but to me, you fail in recruiting in 3 areas: actually getting the players to sign, actually keeping the players on the team, and evaluating players properly so the players you get are what you thought. The data above reflects the first 2.

You’re making it up that Miles and Orgeron were bad recruiters.
You listed players who failed drug test, left for more playing time, a mental case, one that’s still enrolled, and kicked off for other reasons.
You’re trying to mash up the recruiting process with development, coaching and keeping players for whatever reason.
How many of those players you listed leaving (not because of compliance reasons) have become successful at other programs? Just curious, since you’re the data man.

Recruiting players who can't cut it mentally or don't live up to their billing--here or elsewhere--is a failure of recruiting.
It's not that hard to understand.
I acknowledge that "living up to billing" is also part development, but a 4* and 5* not even seeing the field, for example, because they can't get it together is a failure of recruiting as well.
Signing a 5* who gets homesick and transfers immediately is a failure of recruiting.
Signing a 5* with a drug problem is a failure of recruiting.
O was great at getting players to sign on the dotted line. But that's about it, and that's not all there is to recruiting.

Kelvin Joseph - suspended (portal)
Brooks - 46 Rec yards ‘21 (TCU)
Ika - 19 career tackles (Baylor)
Gilbert -
(UGA)
Ricks - still at LSU
Travez Moore - out for season (ASU)
Davin Cotton - family issues (southern)
Rosenthal - drug test (Kentucky)
Hampton - MLB draft
Ray Parker - felony arrest
Donte starks - felony arrest / academics
Peter Parrish - rape allegations. 200 pass yds (Memphis)
Real big losses there.
You’re exposing yourself as an idiot.
Weed isn’t a drug problem (compliance issue) nothing to do with recruiting.
Again, look at that list and tell me where the recruiting issue is.
Now look at the players we “recruited” from the portal. We made out better.
You’re throwing shite at a wall hoping it sticks.
I’m still waiting for things to end wrong for me.
