Soooo, instead of going to New Orleans, they are between (equal distance) Austin and Dallas. That’s less than two hours.
It’s about one hour and 30 minutes from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Not much difference.
Also about 3 hours to Houston. Houston may be a little too far, but about an hour less than Baton Rouge to Houston.
Therefore, they have at least two places they can get in trouble?
If Aranda said this, then he has no idea

Never said I did. Just that the "not worrying about kids going to NOLA" makes no sense when there's an even bigger city about the same distance from Waco. If kids wanted to go cut up in the big city, Dallas is right there. Not going party and being able to keep your players reeled in and focused is a reflection of the kind of players you have and also your coaching ability which BR and LSU would not stop him from achieving that.
It's not that there's lack of opportunity for players to do so in Waco is my point. He may very well like Waco more than BR, I never disputed that and I'm not claiming to know in Aranda's mind which he prefers, just that the logic there makes no sense.

Sounds dreamy, but there is no future at Baylor. He knows that.

You are right, and the same goes for Austin. And Austin is almost as much a den of iniquity as NO
There might even be an argument that it’s worse

Baton Rouge is a shithole, but there are still some very nice enclaves, including near LSU. He could live off Stanford by the lakes and go home for lunch every day. His kids will be out on their own in a few years no matter what.

Don't know more than anyone,,, BUT Downtown Dallas and 6th street in Austin are both only about 100 miles from Baylor's campus. Map it,, that's fact.
LSU to French Quarter= about 80 miles
Not a huge difference.

Kids don't get into trouble in Waco? He may want to revisit the not so distant past re: Baylor football and basketball. More serious trouble than any LSU athlete has gotten into while on campus.
All of this. Aranda may use this as a recruiting pitch because Waco is a sleepy little town. But, Lsu hasn't had teammates killing each other, dealing drugs, and out of control raping everyone. At least not that we know of.
Plus DFW and Austin aren't to far away if your players want to get in trouble.
Has anybody else on this thread spent much time in Waco? I like it but it really is a quiet boring town with no night life. The campus and facilities are nice, but it has to be a hard place to recruit teenagers to.
Don't forget, Baylor was the doormat of college football until Art Briles came in and convinced them to spend some money and started recruiting talented but morally questionable players.

the metaphor of "running off to New Orleans" is perhaps lost on some of you - Aranda can keep a closer eye on his program in a place like Waco because it is fairly remote and he pays very close attention to details and behavior - the anti-briles if you will
Not all that remote. A city of similar size as Lake Charles with practically the same drive time to Dallas and Austin as it is for Baton Rouge to New Orleans.

Clueless?
Waco is within 100 miles of 10,000,000 people. That’s not remote. What’s more is the fact that Briles has issues.
From this one can infer that Waco is not as virtuous as you make out. Not to mention Dallas and Austin.

let me try to re-frame this for you
aranda is a control freak, briles was not
aranda will not be surprised by player behavior if he can help it, Briles literally covered up crimes and created a culture of lawlessness
the waco community and baylor admin are HYPER sensitive about all of this sordid past and watch the athletes at Baylor very closely
the demographics of baton rouge and waco are radically different
Mclennan county is 260K people - 78% Cauc, 14% AA
EBR Parish is 746K people - 55% AA, 40% Cauc
so for athletes coached by a detail oriented HC that keeps a close eye on them, in a community that is hyper vigilant about Baylor and student athlete behavior - where would it be easier to sneak off, be near an "element," have access to things/people/places that could be bad etc
waco or baton rouge?
