Why on earth would Les Miles promote a WR's coach to OC with no prior experience? That's something that a mid-level-to-low-level conference would do.
When you have a program in the top tier like LSU, you have to find an OC that's a proven commodity somewhere else. LSU is NOT the place to give a position coach their shot at designing an entire offense. A program like, SDSU might hire a positions coach to run an offense, then when they prove themselves to be a great OC, they get an OC job at a better school.
I seriously doubt that Les Miles would promote Gonzales to OC when Crowton is gone, and if he does, I'll really start to question his ability to make good decisions for the program.

Maybe, but I don't think its unheard of. Mark Richt wasn't a head coach before UGA. Turner Gill, Skip Holtz, Bobby Petrino (before Louisville).
Gonzalez has been with Meyer for over 10 years, and the same system was run at each place.
My concern is more the fact we run Florida's high school offense rather than whether Gonzalez is qualified or not.

You prove my point, Dennis.
Mark Richt was an OC at FSU before HC at UGA.
Turner Gill was a coordinator for the Green Bay Packers before being HC at Buffalo.
Skip Holtz had been offensive coordinator at USCarolina before being HC at ECU.
Bobby Petrino was OC for the Jacksonville Jags and Auburn before being HC at Louisville.
All of these coaches were either OC or DC at a major program before becoming a HC.
Except for Mark Richt, all of them went to mid-level schools as a HC. Richt spent 10 years coaching FSU's offense, which is credit enough to coach a major program.

quote:That really surprises me too, no question our OL underachieved this year, especially after Miles' statement that this was his best line since being at LSU. There must be something we are missing, but he has next season to prove us wrong...
Stud staying after all? Holy WTF is Miles thinking!!
