Oklahoma has never hired a big name coach

Perhaps you consider Howard Schnellenberger to be a big name - he was at one time, but he was way past his prime and failed miserably.
Switzer, Gibbs, Blake, Stoops and Riley were all assistants prior to getting the head job, and all but Blake and Stoops were internal promotions - and Blake was a former OU player.
So, in 50 years, they have gone outside the OU family twice - Bob Stoops and Howard Schnellenberger.
Even Bud Wilkinson was an internal promotion.
Congrats on Cale Gundy.

Bob was arguably one of the best DC out there and super young for Spurrier af Florida
Almost reminds of Kirby because he got OU back to the top pretty damn quick.

Yes he was a well thought of DC. I wouldn't consider any assistant a "big name".
That doesn't mean it wasn't a good hire.
We could hire Kendall Briles. Would you consider that a "big name?"

Kiffin would do well there.
I love Riley and hope we hire him, but he was gifted a program on top and has simply maintained it. There are a lot of coaches that could've done that. Kiffin is one of them.

Like NC in 2 years wasn't it? I mean it made all coaches think WTF? Put coaches on notice about rebuilding.
