Surprising to me to hear that GP is so entrenched at TCU and that they could match us dollar for dollar if we decided to open up the vault.
I can't speak for the veracity of the claims, but I remember reading he got a cut of some oil money each year and was perhaps the highest paid coach in college football. Feel free to jog my memory.

This is correct. Whispers out of Texas have said for awhile that he was given oil rights to supplement his salary.

I think Scott Linehan could be an out of the blue candidate IF he was interested in coming back to the college game. With the work he has done with the Detroit offense, he may be in line for another shot as an NFL HC.
Agreed.

He has ties to the current staff and was the OC for JLS at both Idaho and Louisville. It might ease some of the transition if we brought in a protégé of JLS and then he moves in to an administrative role through that clause in his contract.
wow. Now that's a great idea and very realistic. I would say this would have to be the winner right now.

yeah. i don't follow the NFL, so i had to look up Linehan. Seems like he would be a great hire.

Really? Well CMR kind of gets a bad rap but to be fair, if he doesn't make that 'last jump' at UGA, I don't think he could do it anywhere. Still plenty of time for him though.
I can't argue that we have not looked pathetic at times in the past couple of years. But you are right, plenty of time for him.
Paterno took longer to win a NC at PSU than Richt has been in coaching. Same with Mack Brown.
Meanwhile, under Richt the only team in the SEC W against whom Dawgs have a losing record is LSU (3-4).
Not sure Richt will ever get it done. But he has been a better coach than the last couple of years would indicate. Irrelevent though. He is not going to ARky.

I looked up his resume. He does have a number of years working in college on his CV so it wouldn't be a complete shock to him what responsibilities a college coach assumes.
The question of how good a recruiter he would be is a good one but... in terms of getting a quality coach I think SL is an excellent possibility

Boosting Butch Davis' odds at the job. Local whispers in the Tyson corp. office is Butch Davis' people have made it quite clear that he wants the job and wants to continue Petrino's offensive philosophy while adding his expertise on the defensive side and his recruiting network.
It's all rumor and BS, but you never know in Arkansas.

I'm not up on all the details at UNC but they made a mistake getting rid of that guy. He was recruiting some pretty good talent. He would emphasize D recruiting at Arkansas and I would assume get a top notch OC.

Yea...but this is a tough one to factor out, idealistically. There's substantial rumbling...

I could see that happening. Butch is aware of the feelings of the fanbase more so than any other coach in america. He could potentially come right in and leave petrino intact as oc. Hell paul has said he plans to stay till his kids are done with highschool.
ETA: I still believe that the more rumblings that are heard about a coach the less likely he is to be the coach.

Aren't his kids elementary school aged? like 7-11 y/o?

Absolutely this. We won't know until the press conference who it's going to be.

I thought he had one start highschool. They asked him about his time frame in finding a head coaching job and he said that since his kids started school he wanted them to finish there and not have to move them around constantly.

I sense a buzz about Butch now. What is he presently doing?

According to everything i've heard he's just sitting around and lobbying for the arkansas job.

Davis with a mostly intact staff minus a couple gone onto HC jobs would potentially be a great win in the coaching universe.
the problem with many of the big names is that they will demand a whole new staff. With the state of our specialized roster I'm not sure we can afford to bring in a Gruden or Petersen for our recruiting class dissolving.

Hire his arse immediately. Fall practice hasn't started.

No doubt. Personally, I don't have a clue what's gonna happen and neither does anyone else, but the BD rumblings do bear some weight, for our sake in talking shite if nothing else.

Butch Davis is currently a "consultant" with the Tampa Bay Bucs. I figure this means he comes in and does high level projects like scouting, film work, mentoring the HC, helping the GM, and coaching the coaches.
Without having to be in the booth on game day and do all the prep work for the OTA's and summer BS. He can chill with the fam, barbeque on the weekend, take his boat out and fish the Gulf, and roll into the office and do what they need without the responsibility of answering for the team's performance.

Davis could recruit south Florida, especially with Canes about to get zapped and UF still on the mend.

No shite. If Long wants Davis and Davis is willing to keep Paul Petrino, this should be done already.
