Who in their right mind thinks that an ex-head coach will remain a defensive line coach for more than a year. I promise you that one year from today that Ed O. will be looking to move on and up from either LSU or UT, especially with Jimmy Sexton as his agent. So if O's recruiting is why you want him, consider this, he will be leaving this time next year. Personally, I would rather have a guy who can tell recruits that he will be around for a while. That means a lot to recruits, so if a change is made with the DL coach, the guy from the bears sounds like a great fit.

You could be right, I am sure Miles has already tossed that around.

Who is going to give O another shot at HC?

He will get a DC job at some point.., part of it is just quality of life.. I think the stress as being HC got to him...If he makes a half million a year, and be DL, RC and Asst HC, and be home, that sound pretty good to me.. MUch more appealing than the Saints job frankly.. NFL is just all work, a grind

Getting fired from O Miss set his career back several steps, but he is still getting paid, so that aint all bad for him.

Name a plausible scenario where he moves on.

What type of job, what type of school?

Personally, I don't see him being in the mix as a DC. He could possibly be in the mix for a HC at a small school, but is that really better than working for LSU?

JEEBUS!!

I suppose you want someone at DL coach who either:

a) Is content to remain a DL coach, thus has no ambition
b) Sucks at his job, thus will not get a chance to move up
c) Just BLEEDS purple and Gold and will sacrifice for the fans of LSU, thus DOES NOT EXIST

you people are unbelievable.

Have we ever had this deep of analysis over a DL coach?

This has to be record of some sorts

I pointed out to Vol fans that their boards do not equal the interest level and discussion as LSU over O, yet some of their insiders maintain that LSU isn't even a player

If Ole Miss had given O one more year, with the QB they had this year, Mr. O and Jimmy Sexton would be having a field day with colleges bidding for his services. He will be someone's defensive coordinator next year, at least. Let him go LSU!!!

Maybe...but that's kind of the point. He failed to the point where he couldn't be given another year. People remember that.

At what type of school? Please give an example.

If I thought he would even be at LSU 2 years, I'd say go for it. Just remember who the puppet-master is...Jimmy Sexton.

BeBe would be able to handle our DL and the tough guys. I think he can talk their language. Have any of you conversed with the D linemen? Not all of them are TV ready. Can he take DC's orders??? He needs a situation where he has plenty of imput. Think of how hard this will be for O or any other HC that has to step backwards. He definetly recognized talent and know where to play the player. That is a great part of a coaches talent. The hardest job is the relationship with the players. Go get in the trenches with those BIG DUDES. It takes a MAN!

And you base this on what? "Feeling"?

I say you get the best person available for any position you have, treat them (and pay them) well, and cross bridges when you get to them.

We just went through a "poor hire" situation, and NOW you want to pass on a good opportunity because what 'MIGHT' happen in the next year?

I agree. He never got to coach a game with his biggest recruit, Jevan Snead. O was the reason Snead came to Ole Miss after leaving Texas and was probably the best "recruit" he was able to bring to Oxford. As we LSU fans have seen this year, good QB play is huge. O had a walk on QB leading his team at times last year. And his other recruiting classes were just rounding into playing shape. O built the foundation that Nutt is getting credit for.

Could be why he would be dubbed assistant HC and head of recruiting...he wouldn't just be DL coach

Corporations have thousands of vice-presidents, but in reality its meaningless. He wants to be the CEO, and who could blame him?

I'm just saying...they seem to be throwing him all they can because they know he could leave for a DC job in the near future....last I heard he would be making more than Chavis, correct?

They are throwing all they can at he and Jimmy Sexton, in order to get him. He is not auditioning. LSU is after him.

Pete Jenkins... got thrown out with Archer otherwise never would have left. Outstanding DL coach.

Big NO on b) that disqualifies any hire.

BTW: O is still and always will be a world champion arse clown with a bundle of off field problems. I'd take him but the leash would have to be very short. Doubt his recruiting practices will mesh well with Miles.

Huh? Did you read the post? He did not leave from "ambition" or cause he had other offers to move up. He was also given one of those asst HC titles under Archer, mostly because we had NO HC in those years.
