My son plays college football, and he has heard rumors that their coach may be the lead candidate for the head coach position. I couldn’t find any news on what was going on with NW program. Anyone here know anything?

Todd Cooley at Delta State was a rumor.

No, not what I meant

I meant the coach at Southern Arkansas has huge Northwestern State ties

Cooley has fielded some good teams at Delta State. They lost in the second round of the D-II playoffs yesterday, but the game really could have gone either way, and as a graduate from the other school, DSU may have gotten jobbed on some calls.

I lost track of the Arkansas schools once they left for the GAC. I don't know all of the coaches there now to make comparisons. SAU is a tough place to win.

SAU coach is doing a pretty good job and he did a great job at a Texas junior college. Plus he's got huge ties to Natchitoches and NW St.

Sam Goodwin came from SAU/Henderson so I know NW St has history with Arkansas small colleges.

I've heard of the Cooley guy in Miss. Heard he's good.

Cooley was an assistant at Northwestern State prior to taking the DSU job.

I looked him up: Trinity Valley. They used to play a lot of games with GMC.

As a former player there, a teammate of both Stoker and Bebe, I truly hope they don't go the good ole boy route and bring in some new blood. The program needs to be completely rebuilt. From the colors in the field house to new painting in the stadium, rebuild everything!

It’s a pretty hopeless athletic department. Nobody there genuinely cares about sports.

Thanks to a state contract that makes them pay to use their own field for practice and games, it will always be a battle uphill.

I didn’t know that. I do know they couldn’t afford a 100k buyout for Jay Thomas, so they let him be a lame duck coach his last year.

I was told they pay about $380,000 just to use their own damn field! This was hear say but, it was from a close source to the program.
