why? because it makes good common sense when conducting a coaching search to interview well regarded in coaching circles candidates that you have an actual chance of them accepting your offer if you so choose to hire them. It's part of the process.

They hired a guy who is widely regarded as an up and comer with a great coaching pedigree.
So was Tom Herman

your probably right, it's much better to hire an old retread coach with a bad coaching pedigree, why the hell would anyone want to hire a young (relatively) up and coming coach with a good coaching pedigree when they could hire an old over the hill fricker with a bad coaching pedigree?
Look, there are no guarantees, you just have to do your due diligence and take your best shot. Looks like Woodward is skipping the due diligence part.

Are LSU fans really pissed that Florida hired a guy from the Sun Belt in a week? Do these morons really believe LSU couldn’t have hired Napier if they wanted him?

This reminds me of the old Miles days when our play calling sucked, and all we heard was "we're saving the big plays for the big games". They never happened .... just like this. Who wants to move to Baton Rouge??? I hate to even visit it now-a-days. :-(

It's baton rouge and it's the fan base. I think that's a big part of it. Who would really want to live in baton rouge and then also have to deal with this fan base. For a lot of people money isn't everything. Really that's another reason why we should have interviewed Napier. He was willing to deal with this place.

1. Napier previously turned down Auburn and South Carolina.
2. Napier cancelled a meeting with LSU this past Monday.
3. Stricklin started talking to Napier after South Carolina embarrassed Florida.
4. Stricklin met with Napier this past Tuesday.
5. Napier made several requests regarding administration support.
6. Napier's requests were all met on Sunday.
7. In 2017, Stricklin hired Mullen as a second option after Chip Kelly agreed and then backed out.
I'm not gonna say that LSU is fricking around but any cursory review of Florida's coaching searches over the last two go-rounds would disabuse you of these notions that Napier was desperate and Stricklin was desperate.
It's pretty clear that Stricklin decided to fire Mullen a month ago and immediately started vetting Napier at that time.

False. It’s been made abundantly clear that Woody had no interest in him. That’s been reported by a few outlets.

If LSU had been going hard after Riley and then he blew them off at the last second, it stands to reason that they would have overlooked Napier trying to swing for the fences.
On the other hand, I never understood the Riley fascination. Why would he leave a program already rolling that was going to the SEC to join a program he would have to rebuild in the same division in the SEC. I mean, it really made no sense.
Don't give me that bullshite CAuSe lSu iS the bEsteSt. Oklahoma is just as big a program as LSU is. That's not a slight against LSU.

How is putting on a clinic hiring a coach that we obviously didn't want?
Posted on 11/29/21 at 1:02 am to tenacious
Champ, Mc, Dan....... Let’s all pretend UF makes stellar hires....

No he didn’t, Chip kelly played us like you just got played by Riley. Then we went and tried to hire Frost and he turned us down AND then we hired Mullen.

Napier literally had guys get him on an LSU talk show to talk about the LSU position and get his name out there. He was begging to be a candidate, but then realized he wouldn’t be and had to fall back. Now if LSU made the right choice is a different position. I don’t really know as I think Napier is a good coach, but there is zero question we could have had him if we wanted

You just proved you aren't management material. Good thing this is an anonymous message board.
