I don't know what's worse. Having to stoop down to hireing David Cutcliffe or David Cutcliffe making demands to the point he won't be the coach?
If they want Cutcliffe then Cutcliffe should get to hire his staff. If the AD can make demands on who UT retains, then this relationship would be short lived. As you recall, Cutcliffe's undoing at Ole Miss was his refusal to make coaching changes when Boone insisted. It wasn't so much the record but the "insubordination". Hold you stance Cutcliffe (unless you want the job that you are willing to sacrifice your character)

It was his D coord position that he got fired over. Their defense wasn't very good, but they went 8-4. It was demanded that he hire a new DC, he refused, so they fired Cutcliffe instead. One stupid act by Ole Miss

Hamilton is an idiot and a terrible AD, but I don't disagree with him in this case. He knows that Cutcliff tends to hire good coaches, but is not a good recruiter and doesn't tend to surround himself with any. He is also FAR too loyal to his guys, which is the reason he lost his job at Ole Miss. Hamilton doesn't want Cut going to UT and pulling in the 60th ranked class next year, because they are already too thin as it is. They still have some good recruiters left there at the moment. If you pair Cut with a good recruiting staff, he will probably do pretty well.

I have not heard one person anywhere in the State of Tennessee who can say anything positive about Hamilton. Since there is no President at UT it would take 75% of the Board Members to fire him. And no one wants to go down that political road right now with all they are dealing with. If they had a President I think Hamilton would be gone.
