He should have never left B.C. for NC State. He had a good thing going on Chestnut Hill and then made a lateral move to Raleigh in my opinion. He should have stayed at B.C. till a better job came along.

1. NC State has SEC-level delusion when it comes to their hires. They were confident Bill Cowher was going to take that job when O'Brien got it.
2. To actually answer your question O'Brien averaged about a 7-6 record, anybody with a pulse can do that at any ACC school not named Duke.

This is true. I live in Raleigh and State fans feel that they have the ability to get any coach they go after for football and basketball. I've told many friends who are State fans that every school has to be realistic about who would want to coach there but they think they are on the level of UNC and Duke for basketball and the SEC for football.

Let me guess ... you're a UNC fan? I also live in the area, and none of the State fans I know have these delusions (pretty evident by the hiring of O'Brien and Gottfried). That said, I don't know what the hell Yow is doing, but I hope she already has someone in mind that she's confident will come to Raleigh.

You'd be wrong, I have ZERO affinity to any of the schools in the area. I truly could give a shite. I'm speaking of what I've read and heard from local sports talk shows with previous hires, because there were delusional fans who thought that Cowher was coming to coach the football team and that Rick Barnes was gonna leave Texas to be the most recent basketball coach.

What the hell are you talking about.

I actually go to NC State and wht you just described does not exist.

TOB is a shitty coach. Look at all the shitty teams he loses to. He has the talent to beat top 10 teams but then loses to shite. Thats all on coaching.

TOB sucks bro. How do you bet clemson last year, but lose to wake and BC?

How do you beat FSU this year, but get blown out at home against UVA?

We have talented football players. We should be better than 7-5 in the ACC.

That was your first mistake. Just like The Rant is not representative of the average LSU fanbase, sports talk shows in NC are not representative of the NC State fanbase.

Looks like James Franklin is on their short list. Debbie Yow the AD, was the AD at Maryland who made Franklin the coach in waiting before he left for Vandy. Can Vandy keep him if NC State comes calling?

This exists with every fanbase, LSU included. Don't take it personally.

NC State has more upside than vandy just because it is in the ACC. Im sure vandy is the better program right now.

Id be willing to be we have better facilities though.

There's no mistake. I've also talked with many friends and clients who are State fans and many of them had similar views. I guess you have more reasonable friends/aquaintances.

Then why even mention it? You obviously understand that it is a small delusional percentage of fans that exists with any fanbase. I guess you just wanted to call out NC State and act like you had actual input.

Amato did a great job upgrading the facilities at State. Not sure what Vandy's facilities are like, but it wouldn't surprise me if NCSU had better facilities.

If you say so. I'd be pissed too if I was a State fan and had to be the red-headed stepchild to UNC and Duke in sports, academics, etc.

Now you're just showing your ignorance. State has taken a back seat to UNC and Duke in basketball, but there are very few programs in the country that haven't. From a football perspective, State beat UNC 5 of the last 6 years ... don't think that qualifies as a "red headed stepchild". Academically, comparing Duke and State is like comparing Tulane and LSU. UNC is basically a Liberal Arts school ... State is an Engineering school. Again, no comparison.

I've been here a long time. I know the differences between State, UNC and Duke.

NC State isn't that bad of a job, especially with the SEC rumors. Will bury South Carolina if they join

ETA: And O'Brien suddenly becomes an intriguing free agent coach. A major program will hire him
