Dunbar has been rumored to return to the NFL.

Is he going to Alabama? What happened to Dunbar? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I haven't seen anything on this. Admittedly, I've been focusing on Christmas the past few days.

Rumor floating around that Dunbar may return to NFL. A few Bama posters just wondering if Haley might be a possible replacement. Doesn't sound like it.

He’s a bad hire and would be shocked if Saban took him, legit stunned
I don't think Saban would hire a an inexperienced coach to coach the all important DL in the SEC either. Orgeron just did. That's a real head scratcher. LSU can do better that that.

My post from an SEC Rant thread last week:

And as another poster has mentioned, Danielle Hunter's coaches in Minnesota talked about how unprepared he was coming into the NFL. He had 4.5 sacks in 3 years at LSU. He has 25.5 sacks in three years in the NFL.

This. I remember reading about how either Mike Zimmer or Andre Patterson (Vikings DL coach) yelled at Hunter before his rookie season to use his arms or he was going to cut them off.

I think Hunter also said that he learned more about playing DE in one day with the Vikings than he did in 3 years at LSU.

Hunter draft profile
quote:

Played 80 percent of the defensive snaps in 2014, managing just 1.5 sacks. Doesn't have the upfield burst and bend to turn the corner. Considered a "thinker" as a pass rusher rather than a naturally instinctive reactor. Must show he can effectively counter as a pass rusher. Has winning power in hands, but inconsistent with how he uses them against run and pass.

quote:

The concern with Hunter is that his pass-rush instincts are marginal and he hasn't learned to use his physical advantages to rush the quarterback more consistently.

Like others have said, he didn't really instill much technique in the DL which hampered their development.

Brick Haley's employment had more to do with the man supporting his special needs child than his actual ability to coach.

His coaching has also been questioned. When Hunter was drafted by the Vikings they made it known that he had tons of raw talent but lacked in the being coached up department.

^This. The Vikings Media tore him a new one over Danielle Hunter. They literally said he had no idea how to play DE and zero technique coming out of college. That’s hard to overlook.
