The difference is that coaches (and we'll people) of quality (like Saban, Wade, etc) are "control freaks" because of their obsession over details. O is trying to control things because he's incompetent and wants to delay the discovery the emperor doesn't have clothes as long as he can
He has no other option other than admitting he's a terrible coach because he lacks the mental ability to formalize another plan. That's why he was a control freak at Ole Miss, too. It's his personality only as a HC because it's more the manifestation of his incompetency than a legit personality trait
